can normal half life maps and mods be played and brought to hl2? (quite easily?) do they use the same .bsp format?

I remember reading that they have to be converted, or something and the tool to do so is included, however I could be wrong

well, i hope it can be done quite easily, if u can use your old half life wads in making maps u should be able to use your old maps

no they can't
yes they have to be converted
of course you can use the same wads, just rip all the textures out and put them into whatever texture format they use for HL2

Considering HL2 supports such an advancement in mapping, I wouldn't bother with any of my old maps however

well how bout if u r halfway with ur mod and want it to be converted with hl2? i have heard half life 2 uses .wad format and maybe its own one

hey, what bout condition zero, it takes .bsp format? so u can bring all ur old cs maps over to it?

This question has been raised in many forums.
Mod teams everywhere want to know if they can import their work.
The response seems to be yes, with conversion as indicated by Jobabob....
But before you get too excited, dig out your first playable map (one that actually works) and use all the knowledge you have gained to improve it....
I bet you won't be mapping for long before you decide to scrap the map and use the original concept to start again.
So, what makes you think that transfering to HL2 will be any different? Most of the stuff you have done so far will be unworkable/unusable/look incredibly stupid in the new engine.
If you want to take the brush work with you, fine.... but you might want to spend a month working out how the new editor works before you do that.

My opinion exactly. I've maybe seen one, two maps that could stand up to comparison with HL2-quality maps and even they'd need quite a bit of work.

Fact is that half-life 2 architecture complexity is completely unapproachable in half-life, as in tens of thousands of polygons.

well how bout cs:cz? people will want their multiplayer maps in there... including me, i map hl singleplayer and cs for multi (also heist)

JaX that is the wrong question to ask here lol :P U know, people dont like cs here... Im gonna be mappin my a** off when cs : cz comes out, maybe I will get lucky and make some of the more popular maps

yeh oh well.. ppl give condition zero a chance! .. actually no dont, cos the singleplayer is a rip off of the multiplayer, but im hoping the new multiplayer for it will be better (atm it looks only graphic wise)

How can it be a ripoff?? ITS THE SAME GAME! Maybe if someone released a single player game and called it, er, Counter-Go then that would be a ripoff! :P

its not really a ripoff i just worded it wrong.... they have basically taken the mp and made it a sp game... so its trying to feed of its success.. dont get me wrong, i love cs and cant wait till launch day but its only to see these new bots...
