Hello there everyone! It's been forever since I last posted, it looks like, and I now have a computer that doesn't fudge Hammer whenever I try to run it!

Anyway. I'm still very much green at mapping, so I decided to have a crack at recreating the Spencer Mansion from the original Resident Evil as a way of improving my skills. At this stage I'm focusing on brush and textures, but as I move on I'll get onto more complex things. Should also point out it uses the AbsolutVodka and ZillaFinal wads for textures.

Map download is here: http://twhl.info/vault.php?map=5934

As always, feedback and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Can you include the wad files with the rest of the map files?

I tried to and the compressed folder ended up being 30 megabytes.

Try wadincluding your wads, that'll save up some free space as only used textures will be be included in the bsp.

How do I do that, is there a tutorial?

There is a parameter you use with vbsp, it's like vbsp -wadinclude Nameofconfig, where Nameofconfig is something you set in an .ini file in the ZHLT/VHLT directory.

Actually, it's a HLCSG parameter: -wadinclude <path-to_wad here>. For every wad you want to wadinclude, you'll need the -wadinclude parameter. You can use the wad ini file, but I'm not sure how that works.

Strange, I have a CFG file, not an INI file : And I also got my own one, and for larger maps which uses a lot of textures from different wads, I use the "-wadautodetect" cmd. :)

I may be wrong, it could very well be CSG, not BSP.

The -wadautodetect parameter only discards Hammer's list and only lists the wads you actualy used in the map, but doesn't wadinclude any.

There should be a wad.ini or maybe wad.cfg where you list all the names of the wads you used and the ones you want wadincluded. Instructions are in the ZHLT help file, but it was something like this:

In wad.cfg you add the following:

mymapwads
{
some_wad_file_you_used_in_your_map.wad
someotherfile.wad
include your_custom_wad.wad
}

Format may not be quite right, check the format of the entries already in the file.

Then you call csg.exe with the -wadconfig parameter:

csg.exe -wadconfig mymapwads

This will again ignore Hammer's list of wads (which always is ALL the wads you have in Hammer, not the ones you actually used in that map) and use the wads you listed there.

I still advise you to look it up in the ZHLT help file, I'd do it myself but I don't even have Hammer or the compile tools in this computer.

Here's a massively revised set of hallways from the eastern wing of the mansion: http://twhl.info/vault.php?map=5935

Hopefully the textures show up this time.
