I have a problem where hammer changes the jmf files into .map files for quake rather than half life. After compiling, the process window shows that the map file was not found in correct directory. :(

RMF is rich map format for Hammer Editor, there the editor stores various things only the editor uses.

MAP format is the format the compiler uses.

Everything is correct, something else must be wrong.
Are you using the default compiler or something else? Post the compile log.

The problem is you trying to use Hammer when there is something better...

Try Sledge Editor instead. Enhanced features/flexibility/tools, and highly-customizable interface make it a cut above Hammer. Also, setup is WAY easier ;)

For compile tools, make sure you're using the latest VHLT for best results.

JMF is Jackhammer Map File, which means that you're probably using Jackhammer editor. You have to save the map as RMF to be able to open in with Hammer and compile it.

I totally forgot about Jackhammer and JMF format.

Since its clear what you are trying to do (use Hammer editor default compiler) I suggest you ditch it and get either Compilator 3 or Batch Compiler. And the latest VHLT as well
You have all you need here.

Then I totally recommend you to use the latest version of the VHLT Tools. :)
