Sorry, you guys are probably thinking what the hell does that have to do with anything, well the answer is nothing.

I would just much rather go back to vhs, dvds are shitty they skip all the time. Does anybody agree with me?

If not, then think of the last time you watched a dvd and at the utmost high point of the story, it freezes and says Unable to read disc.
EERRR.

i've never had that problem you ever abuse your disks and they get scratched or you bought a reallly cheap obscuse branded DVD player we have 2 DVD players (panasonic and sony) and a drive in the computer and i've never had a movie skip with any of them. besides VHS is shit, the tapes degrade they look foozy and the sound is flat, i dont even have a VCR anymore when it died i saw no reason to replace it we just got a DVD recorder instead.

dont buy cheap brands there not worth it in the end, they just have compatability issues with differant types of disks and they cut corners so they dont last as long and like you said make your disks skip. if you wana buy a resonably priced brand name DVD player get the Sony DVP-NS330, i paid ?180 a year ago but its like ?120 now it plays just about everything, DVD-RW/-R/+RW/+R, MP3CD, VCD, SVCD and standard CD.

never once have i had it skip or even had any compatability problems with it. definatly worth the extra cash. (would be real cheap on ebay)

Same here, I got a sony a couple of years ago and I payed ?280 for it. It has never had any skipping problems or disk reading problems. Except from my first one which was faulty (it got stuck and freezed). Then I got a replacement of it and it has been fine.

Yeah. VHS is great.

Johnny: "Hey, you know that sweet part where the dude gets his head sliced off at the end?"

Joey: "No...never saw it"

Johnny: "Oh! Let me pop it in my VHS and fast forward for a few minutes to see if I can find it for ya!"

The good thing about DVD is you can randomly pause it with not fuzzy lines which makes the characters have funny faces :D

Lemme tell my part in this about getting an more expensive one. We bought a cheap, like 30 dollar thing (It was very skinny and we needed one and that was the skinnyest). It played about 3/4 of the dvd's that we got, and stopped at times in high action parts like you said. Well ovbiously we beat that one with a baseball bat after we bought a new one. Next we got a sony player for about 180$. We have never had a problem with it since.
And the quality of dvd's is so much better. Mostly if you have a... whats it called... I think its a coaxiall jack in the back that you hook up to your TV (fiber optic transmission), damn it looks good. Dvd's are great, but more fragile, but can be fixed unlike tapes with the purchase of a cd cleaing device to remove scratch's ect.

Well if you treat DVD's nicely then there shouldn't be any scratches right?

Yeah, but the player itself can get screwy and just stop working well, causing skips. I remember when DVDs first came out, we ended up getting a cheap 50$ one...After two months, it wouldn't even play our new DVDs. Then, I picked up a Ps2 and it plays my DVDs pretty well, along with all my games and audio CDs if i feel like it.

Yeah well it depends on the quality of your player.

lol.... i will never understand why people have trouble keeping DVDs in good condition people always scratch them and then blaim the design... the only time they should be exposted to be able to get scratched is when they go from the case to the player and then back again... so i dont see how people manage it. also if you leave your disks laying around and then put them back in the player your effectivly shuving dust in the player. so that might be what your trying to get at,

oh and DVD is best when you connect it to your Tv with a scart cable, (PAL EUROPE) thats the only way you can get the dolby support to work properly appart from connecting the player with an optical audio cable but only big brands like sony and panasonic do it.

VHS forever! Retro!
... Ok I haven't got a DVD player, except in my little comp.

I'm pretty sure Dark Tree was being sarcastic ;)

I am gunna get a DVD-writing one, and then tell my dad we need a DVD+/-RW drive for the PC to burn all the movies I download for him! Haahaa! w00t, finally, I'm not the one paying for all the technology in this house!

I can't see any competition whatsoever between VHS and DVD. That's like comparing a '78 and an OGG player.
