With Steam (which is necessary for online HL now), if your connection is fast, you can run a Steam Dedicated Server (just launch from the me games menu) and join on the same comp. That's how I host my games. It's very fast and lags alot less than running a lan game and setting sv_lan to 0. I can host CS or HLDM at the moment. NS has some problems but I will get on them. If you want me to put a custom map cs or hldm server, email me (look in my profile for address) with a request, the server name, the amount of people you will want (10 is maximum for now) and zip up any custom maps/resources and send them to me.

I have 2 firewalls running all the time and the server works fine. Just set up some properties in ur firewall.
