Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit www.steampowered.com. Any third party mod can be used as a server and a mp game. Just run the server from dedicated server and it will appear in list of servers for that third party game.

I can play all my 3rd party mods: Asheep, Firearms, HL Elite, Hunger, Invasion, NS3, Poke646, POV, Redemption, Science and Industry, SoHL and The Specialists. OpFor CTF does not show up on my list, even with it installed. I just ran it with -game gearbox and it works fine.

you knwo why they do it, they have to pay for won, for steam they dont. and they got a reliable system for hl2 on mp.

wont work dude, sierra can save a shit load of money by not using won. and won is not related to sierra ore valve, they use the won system. and they decided to stop it using hl. so won still excist, but not for hl anymore. the scan servers will be taken down.

Put the mod folders in youremailhalf-life and launch them by either using the third party games list, or in some cases, you need to run it with -game x set in the advanced launch options.

Don't know what are you talking about... if you ask do you need to download them, well... you just instal steam, register with cd-key (that from hl) and have all games avaible, just right click in panel and click instal, and it'll be downloaded (very fast) You can download hl, op4, tfc, cs1.6, dod, ricoshet(great game! funny) and you can download mods manualy. well, steam is better then won. and servers show up quiker. and hl get new upgrades all the time. just dl the 500k installer. then steam will copy your normal hl files to steam and update them. it only takes 10 minutes for me to upgrade my normal hl to steam.

I can run Steam fine on a Pentium 3 500MhZ with 128mb of RAM and a ISDN connection fine. All the games play at max res and the ISDN connection doesn't lag hardly. Steam 0wnz. WON on the other hand lags like hell on ISDN. Unplayable sometimes even.
