I think its because i got something on the internet. I scanned with Norton anti virus, nothing and then i used Spybot-Search&Destroy and got rid of about 20 things, but all my apps when i double click them a prompt screen comes up saying C:/my documents or whatever. I couldnt connect to the intert through my modem. I cant open any installer apps. I cant open Half Life Sound Selector, My ADSL Voyager modem, Powerstrip, Webcam, Mirc, NOTHING!! When i try to open them i go into Proccesors and see that prog there suing up like 50% of the comp so i end the process and everything is fine again, until i try to open something else what is going on ?

If you think its spyware, get Adaware. It's a spyware remover program and its free! And computer cops is a good site/forum for computer issues with spyware and stuff. Google for Computer Cops.

It also might be that your computer is just too full of useless shit. Try uninstalling things you dont need/use anymore.

And get HiJack This. It is a very good program. It basically tells you all these different files on your computer. It's kinda hard to explain exactly what it does, but it is a really good program, and I think everyone should get it, it really comes in handy. If a file looks suspicious, you can simply check the little box next to it, and click Fix Checked. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DELETE THOUGH

also an internet cleaner would help. they go through your cache files and delete everything to recover disk space. they can also clean loads of other stuf you get from the net.

A format sounds like a better option. Sounds like your computer is full of crap, errors, rogue files, etc. Backup and start fresh.

Whoa, whoa, don't get extreme here. Let Neo tell us which processes are bein' dodgy before we start rambling 'bout formattin'

The easiest way is always a good format, whenever a computer is this messed up it's harder to fix everything without damaging anything than it is to do a clean format. Most off the time, processes that activate "themselves" when you activate other software are viruses. When a virus takes up this much cpu it's possible that your computer is being used as a mail client (which would explain the 50% cpu usage). If this is not recognized by your virusscanner, a format is (in case of a regular computer user) inevitable. So, either way I (as a more professional computer user) recommend a format.

Maybe you could post a log of your active (out/in)bound connections. Start command, type "netstat -a" and copy the result into this thread.

Too late anyway. Comp was dead, and from my last post here, the computer wouldnt load up windows. Had to do a format, lost everything, started over. All sorted

You coulda booted another OS and backed up your documents, but hey.

I did all mine recently, fortunately. 7GB or so.

you lost everything :O.... geeez... for future referance get a second hard drive or just set up another partition... then use it for all your files, games and downloads. that way you wont lose anything when you format your primary drive.. thats what i do... also that way formating and reinstalling everything isn't such a big deal because you dont have to backup and restore everything and even if windows wont load becouse of an error your data is still safe even if you have to format...

you do know you probably didn't have to format, you could have just installed a fresh OS!. without a reformat
