I recently downloaded The Wastes mod, and I have to say it is a superb mod which I enjoy the most. However, the other day it ceased working all together. I can no longer play it because it tells me I need an 'Upgrade' yet there isn't one! What's going on? Is it to do with Steam?

It keeps saying that my version of hl is out of date, then it attempts to find one and tells me that even though I have the latest version of HL it is still out of date and cannot find an update. Basically, this is unfair, I can no longer play my fav. mod, yet just days ago I could. I didnt even touch anything that could possibly cause it any problems, it just decided to stop working one sunny day.

The WON servers are offline, so you couldn't connect even if you tried.

...I have the latest hl patch (1.1.1.0) yet it still tells me I am to update even though it knows there isnt a new update. However, you are right, it does say that it cannot authenticate won servers. I have steam, but I wouldnt know anything about somehow converting the wastes to steam.

Nope. Tried it, didnt even know why, but I tried it, didnt do anything. So far this whole steam nonsense has caused so many issues.

Now that won has gone I cant even play against bots. There is no way of letting it know that all I want to do is play against fcking bots! Not Internet Servers, bots!

I dont know what to do, steam has a mind of its own that seems to want to destroy the god damn world, the wastes aint working, WON has gone, what will it be next!!!

OMG, Jahzel, I didn't evn tried to instal The Wastes on WON version, becouse it works great on steam! Yes with bots AND humans, becouse all those few peoples that play Wastes play on Steam. Just instal it using instalation program to steam/steam apps/[your e-mai]half-life, instal bots and PLAY! And lol don't blame steam for that you can not instal Wastes, blame your self! WON sucks anyway, i don't like to wait 3 hours to upload all list of servers : I'm glad that this overloaded "thing" is away.
BTW: have you noticed latest cool steam update? A little confusing for the first time, but cool any way

...Still, it seems a bit of a hoo-har just to install a mod. I liked it the way it was before. At least with WON you didn't have to mess about too much.

it's nothin rely hard to install a mod. EXACTLY the same as with WON version.

Crusader, I just did exactly what you said and everything. The Wastes however has to be in the normal Sierra/Half-Life directory in order to work. So, what the hell is that about? Shall I put the steam right in the Sierra/Half-Life directory? I dont even know anymore -- s'whole things messing with my mind!
