1) How do I put friendly turrets into my maps, just like in single player.
2) Would I be able to put it into a multiplayer level and have them assigned to different teams?

3) How do I make those holes in the ground that antlions come out of and how do I make them come out of the hole?
4) Are antilions only on my team when they see the bait, or can I put in antlions that start on my team from the start of the level?

Suggestions on what you should try before you ask these questions.

1. Create a turret and look in its properties.

2. If there's a team attribute on the turrets.

3. By searching the entity list for entries that could work.

4. Antlions should not be used in multiplayer. Think of lag.

It's a certain way of thinking.

Antlions were planned for dm_lockdown but got removed - The holes were left in. And there's a sample dm_lockdown VMF...

env_global lets you make enemies friendly and gordon invincible as well as letting him use the powerful grav gun that can pick up bodies and striders ;)

Care to expand on that, Habboi? What you were saying may just solve my own problem - I need to find a way to manipulate bodies using the gravity gun, but it doesn't appear in the level! If you could elaborate on env_global, I would be most appreciative

There's a flag on the env_global that should enable the super-grav-gun, I believe.

I don't have much to say when it comes to commenting, because I am not allowed to download. So it is pointless to comment. And in the forums I can't comment because most threads go off topic, as this thread is right now.

So far there has only been one thread in the forums that I know the answer to and I answered it to the best I could.
Posted 19 years ago2004-12-30 17:40:11 UTC Post #80407
env_global only has one flag: set initial state. Nothing else.
Posted 19 years ago2004-12-30 17:42:54 UTC Post #80408
Nevermind.
Posted 19 years ago2004-12-30 17:54:05 UTC Post #80411
There is not a team property or a friendly property in the turret.
It is not in env_global either.

My question about friendly turrets is still not answered.

I am spamming annoyingly. Hit me.

Did you try checking the start inactive flag?

I believe if the player places it it will activate for the player's team, try it.

When I say friendly turrets, I specifically mean the entitie 'npc_turret_floor'.

If you helps me with this entitie I could figure it out for other turrets as well. So help me with this entitie.

Does the site say 'I am spamming annoyingly. Hit me.' if I post 5 in a row? No, it doesn't, irate moderators make it. Stop bumping your questions after three minutes and think before you post.

I'm going to quote my posts above which are possible solutions to your problems...

I think all the ents for their spawning are there, actually. Take a look.

I did try the start inactive flag and I tried it in combonation with the other flags as well, but it still will shoot the player.

In dm_lockdown I found the antlions holes, but there are way too many entities in the area that I cant tell what I should copy.

This is what I want to know:

1) How to set up ground turrets so they are on the players team.

2) How I set up the holes that antlions come out of, and how to make them come out of them.

3) Just so I know how, I want to know how to limit the amount of antlions total out of any of the holes to be 4 at a time.
Posted 19 years ago2004-12-31 19:56:01 UTC Post #80713
well i am still learing about the antlions so copy away and mess around with them

turrets are programmed to kill you so i have one idea that may work

again put an env_global in map, properties, settings and click gordon is pre criminal (similar to that as i cant remember exact wording)

If you look at the dm_lockdown map, there was (or at least, the version that I had had 'em) an entity right above the holes that controlled the antlions and how many spawned.

I assume it's just an npc_maker that spawns them.

Could someone please make a make that has the antlion holes and the antlions made so they come out of the hole, just like in single player. and make a link to the source for the .vmf. I can't download so it must be the source. In other words I need to copy and paste the source to my own text file so I can look at the map. If you can make it, please use the same textures as the single player antlion holes.

One last thing -- Can you make a second hole that is covered and must be brocken in order for antlions came out. If this is too confusing, then please just follow what I said in the first paragraph.

Sorry if I am asking for too much.

:(

Well i dont see why you cant just copy the entities from the map unless you cant find it or having trouble opening it?

I can find it, but when I find the holes there are to many entities to know what is meant for the antlions.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-01 19:25:54 UTC Post #80897
There aren't THAT many D: - It really isn't that difficult if you look at the entities' properties - Obviously, you don't need the crate models, nor the cubemaps. You want the entities that have to do with the burrowing or the spawn amount. (ie, math_counter, info_targets, soundscapes...)

I have not tried that yet, but wouldn't it just make itso the enimies act as they do at the begginging of the game? Meaning that they don't hurt you unless you walk near them.

I wouldn't depend on the turrets being sensitive to that as they didn't appear earlier in the game to my knowledge.

And if you fail - try again, then type out your post / thread, and before you press post, click the little X in the top right corner.

:P

Not a large amount of people here know everything about the HL2 entities. Even I don't know how to do this setup because it has never interested me.

If you want to do it, be the first to find out, since it seems like the possible solutions everyone else had weren't working. Experimentation is the key. The problem is your door....or something.

I figured it out! It is really simple, all you have to do is put in an 'ai_relationship' entitie and have the object being the turrets and the target being '!player'. You must have the ! before player or it wont work. It also works with any other person, striders, combine, ect. (I only tested it with the turrets, though).

And you also set the disposition property to 'Like'.
