There's a new version of the classic Half-Life modification [url=wwwhostileintent.org]Hostile Intent[/url] coming out very soon.

Combining a tweaked out rendering engine and several revolutionary new methods Hostile Intent is by far the most realistic simulation on the Half-Life 1 engine.
Featuring IronSights as the primary aiming method, the first to do so sucessfully.

Over the coming months Hostile Intent will be completely redesigned on the Source engine, so all you saving up for a new PC have a bit of time to get ready :)

The benefits of Hostile Intent are simple:

Unparalleled TeamPlay, if you stray too far alone and encounter the enemy you'll get killed, no questions.

Unique missions, whether it's searching for drug labs in Columbian jungles, disarming multiple bombs in American hotels, or simply just eliminating the enemy threat in incredibly realistic environments, Hostile Intent has it all.

Due to new rendering systems a higher level of poly's can be utilised in the maps. This means that they can be twice as heavy on e_poly (models) and 1/3 as heavy on w_poly (world brushes/blocks). All this combines to produce vast open areas with unmatched detail, never before in any Half-Life modification have you seen this kind of detail:

Things like HE Grenades and NightVision are actually useful in this game. 1 Nade can wipe out a whole team if you're not careful.

If you've had enough of the repetitive gameplay of Counter Strike and the predictable maps and gameplay, then Hostile Intent is for you.

Head over to the home page now!

Pity the img tags don't work :

Game looks very "Clean & neat" what with all the glowy parts that i hope are in game, and not added with photoshop for the screens ;)

I think that's the TronGlow mod in effect :) - Not sure if they've coded that in.

I like HI, though the earlier version(s) I played seemed a bit boring mainly due to the maps. The new ones shown in the images look very nice, however.

/me plans to DL when he gets home

please don't take it as offense, I don't know the project and approve every kind of creation but ... if I tell you it "just" looks like an evolution of counter-strike, what would you answer me ? :| ...

The Hostile Intent team go to great lengths to persuade people that it is not another counter-strike clone.
Unfortunately, they are not succeeding.

Note to budding mod makers..
No matter how good your Mod is, if there is a similar concept out there, it will always be associated with that.
Simple fix,
Change the historical perspective like they did with Day of Defeat and Tour of Duty and The Trenches.

people are dumb and I think I can be an accurate representative of them :

if you show your mod, as I noticed while visiting for 2 minutes the website, that this is "counter terrorists (or marines, or super cops : call them as you want) versus terrorists", I will just think "omg why switch on this mod while I pwn on CS, where there are pages of servers ?". and if you tell me "hey man, in this mod there are some technological improvements !", I will just answer "improvements yeah ? if I was looking for that kind of stuff, I will just switch on a CS-like mod with the UT2K4 engine, or the Doom3 one, or the HL2 one, SandBox, SeriousEngine, Lithtech ...".

the point I wanted to highlight.

I am ok with any kind of creation, I mean that's much better than just sit in front of your screen the whole day spamming on forums, watching p0rn, downloading w@rez and so on, but ... sorry, an other CS mod with the old old, so old HL1 engine, man, come on ...

Its already looking like GhostOps. (that's a good thing)

As long as its fun, it will get played. ;)

The point of the mod originally was to continue a project that died. A few of the players took some concepts and worked for several years with the product being HI 1.0

Over time the community has grown and is becoming stronger every day. There are around 30 or 40 servers that run HI, there are however far few servers that have a regular rotation. The benefit of this is you play with the same people you talk to in the forums, and you see the same people again and again. Letting you refine tactics and practice things extensively.

Unlike CS where you can go from server to server for months on end before you come across someone you know. You mention 'Why play HI when I can pwn at CS' - good question. If you love to 'pwn' at CS then HI isn't the game for you. HI requires a great deal of patience and practice. Using IronSights (using the v_models sights to aim) adds a dynamic element, it isn't just about point and click, you need to line up your target and make sure you've got a damn good shot if you intend to kill them.
There's no HUD, so no indication of health - no situations where you're hesitant to make a move because you have 3HP. Take into account that 1 well placed shot with any weapon can disable you, you've got to be careful anyway..
No HUD means no way of telling how many rounds you have left in your magazine, you can only keep track of how many you've fired and reload when you have a chance.
Grenades can be primed, as can Flashbangs to go off in the air as they enter rooms. It's not a case of rapidly switching weapons either - it takes time to sling that AK over your shoulder and unholster your pistol.

The objectives aren't like anything seen before in an FPS mod for HL. They can be anything from collecting dosuments to disarming multiple bombs; disabling antennas and sabotaging equipment.

HI 1.4 brings a Capture the Flag style game mode (along with several others), where teams have to take over areas in order to win, promising to add larger military element to the game.

If you are a true CS player then you probably won't like this mod, if you crave something a little more realistic than a single man taking down 8 people with a glock - then HI is for you.

Simple as that.

Also, HI is great for mappers.

Pretty much open plan layouts, complete freedom.
w poly limits of 1300, and e poly limits of 6500. The detail can be amazing.

Indeed, and if I wasn't as busy with Source projects I would try my hand at a HI map or two.

If they come out with a Source engine port, then it has a pretty nice chance if it's released before Insurgency.

''The Hostile Intent team go to great lengths to persuade people that it is not another counter-strike clone.

Why the hell not? I am big fan of this mod and I play a lot with friends on a private server, and this mod has nothing to do with CS. The only thing that they have the same is that they both have bad guys and good guys. :x

CS isnt even close too the tactical aspect of HI

Please play it first before thinking.
