I know the title may be confusing but...

I want to create a Garry's mod server (not dedicated) but i have a problem... IT WONT STOP BEING LAN!

Ive typed sv_lan 0 in the console then i looked at the server list... nothing.

Me and my brother think it has something todo with my router and/or firewall.

Help please. :)

I'd guess the router. I'm fairly sure I've played CS:S on the 'net with sv_lan set 1.

two words: port fowarding

if u know how to configure ur router then enter the port # u will be using under the port fowarding option (you may have to specify which computer the ports are fowarded to).

alternatively some routers also have a DMZ Hosting option. if ur router has this turn it on and enter ur computer's LAN IP (NOT YOUR EXTERNAL IP). by doing that it automaticaly fowards all the ports to ur computer.

also may be due to a firewall. check ur firewall settings and make sure that the correct port # is open.

Okay. I have all of the port forwarding stuff worked out already. But thanks anyways.

Ill just have to mess with the Router's and my PC's firewall.

Same as mine.

I have never been able to host. None of my IP's ever showed up. It has to be something to do with my network, since my network IP (10.0.0.3) shows up on the servers list (for me, not for anyone else obviously).

I'd love to know how to fix it, since I'm sick of playing on Alex's/Rabid's servers with 400 ping.

i could never get my dedicated server to show my external IP. it always shows the LAN IP even if its set up for the internet. i had to go and find out my external IP. this site will show you your ext. IP http://www.danasoft.com/

also my dedicated server never shows up on my server list. either i have to go in the console and put "connectect 198.0.0.3" or use a program like Xfire or ASE to connect.

Read about port forwarding on the web and in your router's manual. I strongly advise you do not turn off your firewall, especially when running Windows.
