Is there a setting in HL2 options where you can set it so you can see models from farther away? whenever i get to far away, they disappear which is really annoying.

This isnt mapping either.

Its single player or any mod for HL2.

It might be my video settings.

There's some scaling property for props about fade distance. Set it to -1 to have it never-fade (although low-spec PCs might still remove it). Your video settings will likely also affect it.

To put a point on it, set minfadedist to -1 and maxfadedist to 0.

Tell us it happens in HL2SP then, and not your maps - "it's not mapping either" doesn't make much sense to me and most others, I'd say.

This sometimes happens when you've set Source to run at a high DXLevel and your card can't support it (ie running -dxlevel 9 when you've an 8.1 card) so check that, and check your detail options. I think models may fade closer on a medium level than a high level, for example.

i have a 32MB card and it runs HL2 fine with with textures and models set to medium and shader detail set to high. its DX level is 8.1 but have have it on 9 with no problems.

since your card is brand new, i would assume its better than 32MB. should have no problem drawing models at long distances. maybe its something with your card settings and not your game settings. also be sure u have the latest video driver installed.

'Brand new' doesn't necessarily mean 'good'.
