Is there a cord that you could buy where it converts the old plugs from joy sticks or other controllers to a USB cord?

You know, the old controller type plugs they had.

Now all of the new PCs and game controllers use USB, but i have some old controllers that use the old style plug.

Can someone help me?

You might have trouble if you're trying to use an Atari gamepad or the Asteroids machine joystick, but any AT-or-newer one should be adaptable. Does your PC have none of the legacy ports?

Actually, you can just buy a small USB cable (for about $2) and wire it up yourself. I did it to my XBox controller so I could play Half-Life 2 with it, but I don't recommend it (not nearly as easy to control).

It was as easy as matching the same colors. Or if that doesn't work, plug it in normally and check the voltage of each one with a potentiometer.

yknow, you could've just bought one of those xbox controllers that worked with pc's. although i dont see how you would rather use an xbox controller over a keyboard.

I know this is not the proper game forum, but can you use a USB gamepad controller for the game Painkiller? Can you for all games? Is it just a matter of knowing how to set stuff up?

Can use USB game controllers in almost all cases where the game supports any such device, even of a legacy connection, to my knowledge.

OK...well I had my gamepad plugged into my usb port and went to the controller settings ingame and it didnt recognize the buttons as I pushed them.....bogus! Anyway to hack through this? maybe in an ini fil or something....any ideas?

Since it is USB, there probably is a way. Google it?

I have googled it...lots...hmmm...

I totally prefer using the keyboard but this is for someone who isn't used to playing games on a keyboard. He's used to playing PS2 and gamecube. I just thought it might be easier for him to start that way :-)

Erm, nobody plays FPSs with a joystick, or a gamepad, except strange lifeless console-foos.

ive seen some usb cable that have the slot for xbox controller. there about $10-$15. they even come in duals (1 usb = 2 xbox controllers). They have these ports for everything i can think of.
