Ever since I compiled my first source map, I've never gotten the cubemaps to work. Using the buildcubemaps command gives me an error message and the game crashes back to windows.
I know it has nothing to do with how I set the env_cubemaps, since I cant even use them with the example cubemap SDK map they have provided.
Has anyone had this problem? I've searched the web all over again and checked the STEAM forums. I found someone had a similar problem but no one offered help...
Any ideas?

When you make an env_cubemap do you go to properties and click 'choose sides' and then you select what walls you want the env_cubemap to work on and click apply so that it shows little yellow lines on the hammer editor screen?

I have no idea why it crashes when you buildcubemaps as it works fine for me.

Has this happened since you first got source?

Make sure your BSP is not write-protected?

What's your video card?

I just got it working, but in order to do so, I had to create some new folders and txt files, guiding myself by the paths of the error messages

for example: hl2/materialssrc/maps/sdk_cubemaps/c128_-384_64.txt

I had a hl2/materials folder, but I had to create the hl2/materialssrc/etc
As I said, the error happened everytime, even compiling the example map, which I trust had everything setup right. Also, impulse 81 didnt work but somehow it got fixed an hour ago...

While all those folders and files I created show that STEAM has still major folder path problems, at least I got my cubemaps working...

Thanks for caring anyway. Oh, and my card is a Geforce4 Ti 4200

Hmm, weird.

Just as a reference, impulse 81 gives you an empty SMG1. which appears with an odd icon. This 'weapon' is actually the envballs.

Yes, I knew it was the envballs, but today I've had the chance to actually see them working. I know, its weird. I even unistalled Steam and everything else and made a clean install in my other Hard Disk, with no change.
But my maps look so much better with cubemaps now :D

Ah, I see.

Glad they work in any case :)
