I've been working on my map for quite awhile now without running RAD, but when I decided to begin running RAD, it gave me a "zero area child patch" error, and my map refuses to compile. I know this means that there is a face in my map with no area, but I do not know how to find that face and fix it. An article at the snarkpit says to look through my map with a text editor, but what am I looking for? How do I fix it?

Thats a problem because you should always run VIS and RAD to check for errors and if you notice an error then delete bits that you added after the last compile but seeing as you have not well

Your screwed unless you can delete each area and try compiling until you can suss it out!

Look at the .vmf in Notepad and try and find a brush which, I presume, has each vertex at the same point.

I have a map with similar dimensions and I have the error as well, but it doesn't cause Hammer to refuse to load the map. I wonder why...

"zero area child patch" means you have a face with no area. This is usually caused by bad vertex manipulation. Pinpoint the brush it's on by cordoning off 1/2 your map and then checking if it's there. Continue halfing until you find it, then remake that brush.

I wonder what kind of map would make you guys reach the borders of the Hammer4 grid... :o
Like they are advising, do a full compile often and errors will be easier to solve. Sometimes I even compile a map just to see how a recently made rope looks like :D
