Hey guys, aren't you sick of fighting among ruined cities, jungles, wilderness and all sorts of shit (not only HL-reletated)?? I don't now about you but I always wanted to play city missions in HL. HL2 had somethin like it but the city was all ruined and not what I really wanted.

The only games that fairly satisfied me were Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior (parts of it). What I'm proposing is let's remake parts of these two games and other city-based games and put them into a mappack. Since Duke3D has pretty much the same weapons as HL no change in the code will be needed. We'll just use SoHL to make the monsters and stuff.

What do you think of the idea??

sounds pretty cool. But, are you talking about converting those mpas to HL format?

I dont quite get it.

I think he's just proposing reconstructing them (from scratch) in Hammer.

Good luck on that!

Remaking them, yes, rebuild the maps from scratch, adding more detail, stuff like that. But I never said I'll do it alone by myself, this is a lot of work! I was talking about a joint effort or something...

i think we need some modern city maps where all the buildings arent old and falling apart

Now, when you say "city mission" you mean like, completely intact and modern right? Not easily done, I tried making the city from the de_vertigo sky (also the ts_lobby sky) and it looked great but it was so big, even with nulls and texture stretching it was at about 3000 wpoly by the second building.
Not to discourage you or anythhing, just giving a heads up for what you might encounter.

C'mon, is no one interested? I started making 'Holywood Holocaust', just to see if I can keep the wpolys below 2000. It won't be an exact replica, since the setup in Duke3D isn't really poly-saving (you can see the entire level from the first street, that's insane)

If it was HL2 you could map the whole World in one map ;)

I would be interested in contributing what limited experience I have to any urban-oriented map. I started to delve into the urban universe with thepink.bsp.

Besides, mostly all my maps are a fight to keep r_speeds down. Sounds like a fun challenge.

Great, any help would be appreciated. I usually make all the textures myself, but I think I'll need some serious feedback on such a map. So I'll start with default textures and and then maybe I'll add some CS textures.

I hope you've played Duke Nukem 3D and you can recall the details in the maps.

If the 'City stuff' is anything like the 'PTS' levels I have already seen, this should be a great level design project...

It sure will be. I just remembered a level from DUke3D, where you have to find the launch codes for two nukes... some pretty interesting ideas are coming out of it...

Post any ideas in this thread

Nah, we just keep it secret until it's complete and we raise enough money to license it and we'll all be rich! Woohoo!

(hey, I just noticed when you make a whole number of logins it says 'Woohoo!' next to the number...)

That'd be for three hundred :).

I think the next and last one is five hundred.
