My one only true fears:

1: Being in a large open body of water (the sea) in quite deep.

2: Sharks (kinda the reason number 1 exists).

I am fine swimming in the sea most of the time, but sharks scare the hell out of me, Jaws is one of my favorite films because I find it very scary.

I have been swimming off my dads Rib boat one time just off the coast, it was about 20 meters deep and the water was crystal clear. I was just under the water with diving googles on looking around at the bottom, then I look over and see a basking shark about 50 meters away, fuck me you have never seen a person climb back onto a boat so fast in your life. I was litterally reaching for the speargun (which had a range of about 5 foot because its attached to a cord).

When I'm walking down the passage, (which is dimly lit) I speed up when I pass an open door to a dark room
I do the same thing, especially when there's a mirror or something in the back of the room where when you walk by if you look into the room it lok like there's some dark figure in the room. Eesh, crawling skin.

Am I the only person who was smart enough not to click the link by Zombie? Come on, we all know the kind of crap he links us to. Ugh, I still remember that army boys website..... shivers. Scary stuff.

Me too actually.
I can actually not remember any dreams, I remember all the nightmares I have had, but when I sleep, it is just like I don't dream at all.

@Tycell -
Being in a large open body of water (the sea) in quite deep.
I'm really not too fond of the thought of being in a large open body of water either.

And I guess what put me off it is actually quite stupid, but if you have ever seen the movie Finding Nemo, and the bit where the whale comes out of the gloom..yeh :P

Its because you are afraid an icthyosaur will pop out of nowhere! Too much Half Life :P !

Put on goggles and go underwater in the ocean, its all dark and murky and you can see maybe 3 feet in front of you. Its so scary.

If that's real that guy probably had to have his arm amputated. But that doesn't look real, it could very well have been photoshopped.
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-17 20:44:14 UTC Post #158374
I have seen this around... as I recall the eventual theory was that it was either A: true or B: makeup - Doesnt look photoshopped.

If it is true the guys a damn fool for letting it get that far.

Ah, like tycell said, i dont like being in a deep body of water, scares me if i cant touch the bottom without really really trying.

I'm fine with deep water as long as I can see all ends of the water(like in a lake or something). Its freaky when the water keeps going though because you know that there could be anything out there. Like a giant swimming turkey of death or something, ya know?
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-17 22:03:22 UTC Post #158378
I was snorkeling with a tour thingy off spain and about <10m under the boat there where really big rocks, the water was amazingly clear. fine.
Then as I swam out a bit The big rocks kind of ended and the water went doooowwwnnn until it was black. I forgot how to breath for a while I nearly had a panic attack.

other than deep water theres not alot else Im worried about. Spiders are ok, but I live in the UK - if a spider bit you you probably shouldnt have climbed into its enclosure at the zoo.

I don't mind swimming in open bodys of water much because I have scuba dived in places like them, but when your 30meters underwater and right next to an old suncken ship it looks a bit freaky, and you guys woluld really hate night dives :P

Death.

I don't want to die. Life is so beautiful and sweet, and there are so many wonderful people in this world. I hate to ever have to leave it.

Besides the fear of death (no more mapping? aarghh!!), I fear guilt and remorse. I'd hate to do something wrong to someone and having to live with that my whole life. Or not being able to do enough to save someone if needed.
I also fear:
-Plane crashes, car accidents and kitchen-gas explosions.
-losing my hard drive contents. It's happened before. Lots of maps lost. Not pretty.
-Unexpected compiling erros when a map is almost done. Same thing with possible corruption of CAD files.
In other words, I'm afraid of losing my hard work.
-Being buried alive.

But the only thing to fear is fear itself...

Spontanious combustion is pretty freaky i was looking up paranormal stuff earlier and DANG is scary to think about. Who's heard of the 'Bloody Mary' game? :zonked:

The dark-bathroom-mirror game? Tried it a long time ago, didn't get any illusions.
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-18 11:59:20 UTC Post #158428
I'll give it a try, just to humour myself. How do you do it?
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-18 12:09:50 UTC Post #158431
light candles put them either side of the mirror, close and lock up (if your bathroom door does) Stare into the mirror it should be dark, close your eyes...
there are several variants of what to do next:
  • say Bloody Mary 3 times then open your eyes
  • spin around saying Bloody Mary 13 times, looking at the mirror at each rotation
  • and more
some version include different names such as just mary or bloody tom...

anyway once you do that there are several different things that may supposedly happen:
  • you will see a vision of the blood-soaked mary and she will attack you either gouging your eyes out or scratching you up! :aggrieved:
  • you will go mad and apparently scrath yourself up.
  • you will live the rest of yourlife in mad hysterics.
Freaky really, i think ive read to much into it! its 11pm here and im gettin creeped out :nervous:

I get nightmares, but they're really corny, like im being chased by myslef or random books....

What a wierd game, i can hardly see why you want to scare yourself like hell...I get scared at some commercials for crying out loud! holds up 'coward for sale' sign

Thats the kind of game noone beleives in, but noone will try...
OK ppl, set up cameras and film yourself doing it for proof! anyway, by horror movie law, the camera either wont work or nothing will happen while the camera is on so we should be safe ;)

#1 Fear: Blindness - (Can't map anymore!!)
#2 Death: Equally as bad, but maybe worse.
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-21 12:26:40 UTC Post #158905
To be blind or unable to hear would be horreble.
You can't see colors, or you can't listen to music. :(

What, he only sees in shades of grey? I thought colour-blindness was usually just confusion of a couple of colours, i.e. red and green looking the same?

yeah i got a friend who wanted to be a pilot but he confuses red and green colours which incidently are the colours of nearly every dial and switch on a plane computer! So he had to give up that dream sadly.

If I went blind I would still map. I'd probably have some advanced talk-n-type thingy putting stuff into notepad as I said it.

imagine me just saying stuff like:
