So the new CSS map is out, it is one of my favourite maps and the man who has remade it has done a fine job! There are lots of sexy new models and textures to use (Rabideh ;))

What do you think of it?

And why is there a hollow cube in the void with a boot model in it :o
I knifed it and it dissapeared :o Perhaps it unlocks something

The story of CSS, before and after the update:

T's looked kinda lame, but they were okey. The hitbox for the head didn't match the model. valve decides to make the T's into Midgets so that the hitbox is correct instead of fixing it properly. As a result, the POV is totally fucked up. Why, oh why?

It's very nice, even if the majority of the minor-ish outdoor decoration has no shadows, which looks dodgy. The layout is a lot like fanhacks of the original assault :).

The lighting is very unrealistic inside, thought, I think.

I wish I could make something as good as that but sadly I would need to learn how to model as all good Valve remakes have new models, textures etc...

It's not fair :(

I think a good map requires a team e.g. UML :D

A good map with custom content needs a team - A mapper, a modeller or two, a texture artist. Modelling ent hard, though, most mappers commercially can do it nowadays.

Seconded. The fake bar decal thing should have slanted bars as well if the light is angled. It looks silly.

Yeah. Seems very low-resolution somehow.

I'm a big fan of Assault too, and thought it was ok. 'Still pretty new to source, so I'll save full judgement for a later time.

One thing though, imo the designers took way too many liberties with the original layout. :(

It's a lot tighter. Far less sniping, too.

Yeah, and the sniper points it does have are much more dangerous =<

I like it. I think some of the texture choices were a bit repeatative (that big red building). Also, I'm once again plagued by peformance issues, which seems to be recurring within the newer maps.

Ant, overclock if you can? I clocked back to stock speeds for troubleshooting BF2 and forgot to change it back and was getting ~14fps. Clocked the FSB from 133MHz to 166MHz and the resultant CPU speed from 2GHz to 2.3GHz, and it doubled.

Seventh/Ant: Hey do you fellows use any of the CVARs to reduce certain effects in the game, to boost your performance? Note: I am very new to CS:S, so fell free to obliterate this post as necessary! :)

Also, I wonder if CryptR was consulted in building the new cs_Assault :P

You play BF2 Seventh?

I think I vaguely recall that the original author was contacted. Or maybe that's for the upcoming de_nuke remake, I know Chris Ashton is working on that.

Yeah, I briefly tried to find some informaion about the designer of my favourite cs map, and only found a really short, albeit interesting interview with him.

I don't think overclocking is an option: I don't have decent cooling on-board apart from the standard heatsink/fan. Besides, I don't want to risk it while I'm trying to finish this film. I'm hoping to get the upgrade soon anyway.

I've got my speeds upped a slight bit with the standard setup and an extra fan blowing on my PC occasionally and it's stable. Overclockin' slightly shouldn't hurt.

Its a good map, you'd think that valve woulda made sure you couldnt get ontop of the building that has nodraw on it though..

Yes, I do, Rabid. Not very well yet, I must say, but I try :).

Anthony: I strongly recommend some nice cooling for your next PC. Didn't you say your parents might well pay for the PC itself? You could buy it ? would make you look appreciative and get you a lovely quiet PC.

Zalman ftw.

Overclocking Athlon XPs seems very easy and safe. Not played with voltages, and doubt I will (I wanted to undervolt, but I can't with this motherboard). Heat
