Its hard to do 2 compos at the same time, but I'll try.

what are you looking for iin this compo, massive detail in furniture and stuff?
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-14 18:01:33 UTC Post #120882
hmm is this his office or his house we have to map?
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-14 18:18:08 UTC Post #120888
Mapping Dr. Breen's House, should'nt that be Dr. Breen's Office? A house in Black Mesa sounds weird, and might no have that "Black Mesa" feeling. An office does. Black Mesa has lots of offices and i think Breed should be in one of those. So do we have to map a house or an office style map in Black Mesa?

We arent looking for anything in particular. This is a chance to show what you are best at:
-It might be designing furniture
-It might be making nice exterior architecture
-It might be adapting a building to a nice and complicated terrain
-It might have to do with lighting and "feeling"

Of course, if you are good in all these and other things, the map will be better :)
It'll be hard to get that black mesa theme in his house
Maybe he doesnt actually like Black Mesa and his house looks nothing like it, maybe it does... By the way, using the standard rock cliff will help making it "belong" to the Black Mesa theme :o

you can compensate it with good interior brushwork etc. This is NOT a vertex manipulation contest!
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-14 19:05:29 UTC Post #120900
Plus, you do not nessisarily have to have an exterior...
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-14 19:11:31 UTC Post #120901
6. The house must be located near a cliff.
7. There must be a connection to the Black Mesa Tram system (train tracks and a tram stop).
Well, a bit of terrain wouldnt do any harm there :)

Interesting competition! Unfortunately, I'll be too busy to enter, but good luck to the entrants.

And what better way to start than with this compo?
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-15 05:53:03 UTC Post #120961
i may join, you could add the theme of black mesa by making some high-tech thingy apartment. I know i intend to do that, if i join in.

In the competition details it states that if you want to include custom sounds, models etc you will need to make it into a miniMod.

I AM including custom things so is it okay if I make this in spirit then make it into a miniMod to submit?
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-16 06:55:38 UTC Post #121149
No, sorry, Spirit is not allowed. Custom materials are okay, but custom code isn't.

I hope we aren't thinking on the same idea and I thought on my idea yesterday! :quizzical:
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-16 09:43:52 UTC Post #121182
No spirit? Damn, I had a good idea for it...

I think lots of people will get the same idea about something, after all, you have to have the half-life transit system in your map so some
people will adapt that the same way...

Hmm.
I think I might enter this one.
The house must be located near a cliff.
There must be a connection to the Black Mesa Tram system (train tracks and a tram stop).
You have to be able to see the cliff I guess then?

And you just have to have a pair of traintracks in the map somewhere? Do they have to go anywhere? Or do we just assume they connect to the Black Mesa Tram system?

Can you just tell me exactly what you need to be in the map? Because that isn't very specific to me.

Thanks. :)
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-17 13:21:02 UTC Post #121602
Well, you must be able to see the cliffs, obviously, and you must have a tram stop and tracks. Have to wait for Kasperg's decision on whether the tram has to be there or move.

Go for it! :) You've got the summer holidays. Try and win yourself some virtual silverware.

Posted 18 years ago2005-07-17 13:27:36 UTC Post #121608
Does the train have to be the Black Mesa train Gordon rides in on the day of the residence cascade?

I would like to make a different kind of train... I know this spoils it a litte, but can I have the train crash right into his living room?

I'm going to have a few maps if terrain until you finnaly get to the house... Will this part be considered during judging?
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-17 13:48:44 UTC Post #121612
I'm gonna go for it Alex.
Just drawing up floor plans now in paint, good old paint.

Can I just ask something, about the tram, is there a actual model or something for the tram in Hammer? Or do we have to create a tram?
I've never had to use the tram before.
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-17 13:57:40 UTC Post #121614
No model! :| And I forgot to remove before I first compiled the level a wadinclude prameter thats includes a wad that I wont use in my map! Do I have to include the wad in the zip/save as the map now? :zonked: :nervous:
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-17 13:58:48 UTC Post #121615
So I have to try and make a decent looking tram by myself? :zonked:
Posted 18 years ago2005-07-17 14:02:20 UTC Post #121617
Or get a prefab(not like me)! :sarcastic: If I remamber correct there is a train in here! :glad:

Lots of questions.

There's another thing that's unclear to me. You're talking about a cliff with Black Mesa Transit System Tracks.

Should we make something like this:
http://wdevries.demon.nl/MarkH/Atom_zooi/c2a5a0000%20(Large).JPG Outside area, with railtracks somewhere, and with Breens house inside the mountain?

Or this:
http://wdevries.demon.nl/MarkH/Atom_zooi/c0a00000%20(Large).JPG Inside area, with railtracks inside, some pipes, detail, and breen's house embedded in the walls.

Personally, i hope the second one is how ou would like it. I hate the first one.
