Now I know everyone says that's just the way of new hammer, laggy... But this is un bearable... I cannot make anything because of it; making one box takes three minutes! I turned down my redo levels to 20... I went to processes and gave Hammer high priority. It did nothing. Is it possible to have hammer open without steam? Because steam is taking up... INSANE ammounts of memory(46,888k) Is there a tweak guide or something?

20? More like 5.

46,888 aint much. How much RAM do yew have?

Closing steam and a couple other programs + turning the undo levels down to 5 seems to have fixed it lol except...

Loading textures is still ubar slow though any fixes for that?

I think not... I always search on some totally weird so I dont have to load  then I often search on something like: concrete, brick, grass toolssky, toolstrigger, etc., etc., etc.

Get more RAM. I have 1024mb and I still run out using Hammer.

I turned down my redo levels to 20...
Mine is on 100 and it works fine  Only the textures that take ages to load....

Hehe I dunno but turning it down to 5 seemed to cure everything :P .. Sometimes I gotta shut down a whole bunch of programs though (STEAM!)

Its probably unrelated, but a while ago I uninstalled HL1 and hammer (I say uninstalled, i mean formatted). Since then I've been getting MASSIVE lg where at one stage a 6mb map was bearable. I don't know the reason for it on my part, since I have LESS running than I did. Occasionally I get a swapspace problem I doubt you do elon. But my pennies worth...

You can't close Steam while the Source Hammer is open.

45MiB of RAM is not a lot. Explorer takes about half that.

To get rid of texture loading lag, open up the texture thing and in the bottom left corner is 'Size.' Change that to 256x256, that way it only has to load a small amount of textures on the screen at once. It helps heaps, believe me.

More RAM is your best bet Davideo59. You need at least 512MiB of RAM to run Hammer adequately, but even then it can be sluggish in places. 1 gig would be more suited.

Heh I will never know what it feels like to have a low end computer that can't run Half-Life 2...

I must be lucky :D

About the textures:

When i first opened hammer and loaded the texture window i experienced extreme lag, but after loading it serval times the textures are loaded in the memory, this speeding up the loading times and decreasing lag in hammer.
