Hi guys. If any of you here have a Computer that you want to sell, tell me.
My current PC is, well, crap. I need a new one. I'm looking for anything over 2.00ghz. 1gb of DDR ram and a really good graphics card with loads of Ram for it.

My parents say anything under ?400 I can have. Thx!

Dr. Mapper :sarcastic:
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-24 08:42:16 UTC Post #137131
You'd probably be better off building it yourself from new, and ?400 isn't enough for "a really good graphics card", a gig of decent RAM, a good processor, a motherboard, and, presumably, new drives, etc.? What's your existing PC, exactly?

Where are you from, too? Nowhere listed in your profile. England?

How about this...

AMD Athlon64 3200+ S939, GF 6600 GT 128MB PCI-E, 512MB DDR400 and a fitting motherboard.

That should do. Order them online and throw them into your existing rig.
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-24 09:44:32 UTC Post #137144
fitting motherboard, do you have a persific type? I'm not good with compatiblitly stuff. I want it all to work to geather... :zonked:

thx

MSI K8N Neo4-F
ABIT KN8
ASUS A8N-E

Any of those should do the trick.

I only have 600 more Mhz of CPU than you, and I dont consider my PC to be crap. OK, it might not run the next Unreal Engine with ease, but I have no problems with HL2, Doom3 or FarCry.
I hope you are not one of those people who won't play a game unless it's with full scene anti-aliasing, etc ;)
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-24 10:02:55 UTC Post #137154
It's full-screen, you know :P. Does make a hefty difference, too, as does resolution. I have a TFT, so I pretty much have to run everything at 1280x1024, as do a lot of people. A 1.4GHz x86 CPU is probably below-average for modern FPS gamers.

Dr. Mappeh, any ratings on the power supply? You might well need a new one if it's an old PC.
Oh, And I'm from England

why?
For the information of prospective sellers... not that it probably matters, as you seem to have accepted the DIY suggestions.

wow, thx guys, at the mo I'm going on Gmod with some friends of mine, but I'll check them out. Thx!

Oh, and 7th, I recently got a brand new power supply, my old one blew up :o

So it's fine

oh and Kasperg. My PC just is not good enough for other game too. FarCry, Doom 3 and Halflife 2 are just so bad, like on the novaprosket level. It's like 2 fps. I have a cool screen though, not Tft, but a compaq MV720. Does the job :)

Oh, and another thing, I cant run Halflife 2 with the latest graphics card drivers because it dont work
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-24 11:14:54 UTC Post #137162
Full scene anti-aliasing ;)
Are you sure you are getting 2 fps with a geforce 4 titanium? which one? Mine is a ti 4200 (not the best of the series). I just guess it's a CPU problem.
I admit anti-aliasing and higher resolutions make a difference, but not enough to pay 200 or 300?. For the moment, there is no game that would push me to buy a new card.
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-24 11:33:30 UTC Post #137165
"Full scene" vs "full screen" ;)

I'm upgrading to pretty similar stuff to everybody else, probably just before I go to uni. S939 Athlon64, good DDR400, and a GeForce 6800. Ant's gettin'/has got/will get something similar. Everybody seems to recommend the setup, myself included :).

If you're not very experienced in hardware stuff, be warned, though: don't take anything for granted. Make sure everything's right. There're lots of friendly techies to help.

Look at the lines. They are all blocky! That is on Max graphics! I need it for comics and that. And other stuff too. Graphics is rubbish really, and it's soo sluggy. I do maintain my PC well and do defragmenting once a week (takes loads of time)

And this too:

It's not running very well. The FPS is bad, On the Nava prosket level, REALLY, it's 5-12 fps!

Well, you could put anti-aliasing when doing comics, since you don't any a good framerate for that :D
And don't complain so much about your PC! I have some friends who can't even see the shader effects on your screenie ;)

And 7th, I don't understand the google fight thingy... Wiki proves the term I used exists. Even if the other term (or other method) exists and has more search results, it's not the one I meant :quizzical:
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-24 14:12:25 UTC Post #137198
I'd hardly say Wikipedia proves something like that, when the presumably-synonymous (equal) term "full screen ~" appears more popular. Could easily be that whoever put that short bit up thought it was 'scene' too.

The lighting looks rather coarse in those screenshots. Low-res-lookin' lightmaps.

Posted 18 years ago2005-09-24 17:05:48 UTC Post #137237
Why spend under budget? You've got fifteen left, push it a bit and go for a better processor.

2x512MiB sticks is better than 1x1024MiB, assuming you're getting a dual-channel memory motherboard, which all 939 boards may well be.

Well, I had a chat with my mum and dad, and they pushed it up to ?450

Thanks alot evilsod_2k, I will get those thngs, and maybe a better processor :)

Are all those things up there compatitble?
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-25 07:02:42 UTC Post #137340
They should be, and it might be easier because you can get them all from the same place.

You might want to get a SLI compatible motherboard? Then if you get a bit of money later on you can add another GeForce PCX6600. (as long as its exactly the same model)

I've just built my dream system on there, comes in at ?2500+ :aghast:
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-25 08:05:33 UTC Post #137351
I'd personally get a better CPU. A 3000+ is hardly top-of-the-range.

Would it be better to get it online or in the shops?

A 3000+ Venice can be easily OCed to FX-55 speeds on air. Those are actually some of the best CPUs for the money.
