Hey, we're not against guns, just the NRA. And Americans in general.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-03 18:15:46 UTC Post #139085
We should change our gun laws in the US, you have to join the army to have a license, they are the only people who should get one, I don't trust anyone else. And why are you so against Americans, you can't be that smartet than us, that stupid crazyfrog ringtone has reached top 10.......

British charts, tut tut. What do I care of them?

Anyway,
seeing as how you have like 11 000 murders per year (something like that, anyhow), no american should be trusted with a gun. You're clearly all crazy gun nuts. (Prejudice? Meh.)

You're clearly all crazy gun nuts.
wtf?? no, I don't much care for guns (outside of fps games, that is) I'm more of a knife/sword/flaming thing person myself (pyro)

That gives me an idea for a new avatar...
jeez, this thread is helpful!

ahem...

back to guns...

Obviously, being a Conservative as you all know, I support having firearms.

No, im not one of those "We have a right to shoot things!" people, although that may make a valid point. I have a different philosophy behind it.

We can obviously view things like "guns" as baaad things right? Well, I don't think so. They are only bad if they are used in the wrong hands (or misfire). The people who are going to use guns to kill people, rob stores, and do other acts of violence or otherwise utterly stupid acts (shooting apple off dudes head) are the "bad" people. Now, if we were to outlaw guns here in the U.S., these "bad people" would still obtain their firearms. Its like outlawing cocaine... People are still going to get it, but they are just going to do it illeagly (a very sick bird). For example, National Prohibition outlawed the sale and distribution of alchoholic beverages. Well, in my opinion, this was an utterly stupid act. People still got their beer, they just did it illegally. This was the event that brought around organized crime. It pretty much all started in Chicago will Al Capone (spelling), the famouse gangster who died in Alcatraz (famous prison. its an island). He started an underground beer distribution, and is responsible for most of the American organized crime today (And also the mildly corrupt government of Chicago, as mayor Daily communicates and runs the city through the Gangsters.) So basically, I do not own a Gun, nor do I ever want to... but I still believe having them in the right hands is a good idea, since the wrong hands will grasp hold of them anyway.

(So.. Theres my opinion. Well, at least I'll get out of here without getting shot...) <--- Get it?
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-04 19:07:29 UTC Post #139397
Well, while we're on it, lets legalize marijuana and prostitution and murder and rape - people will still do it, even if it's illegal.

It's not that no one should have guns - policemen should still be able to wield them. It's just that pretty much everyone can get a gun quite easily.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-04 20:36:51 UTC Post #139407
thats true.. everyone can get a gun pretty easily...

But of course, everyone can get a knife really easily, or get poison, or get a chainsaw... ... ...

Why don't we just get rid of all those? They can kill someone!
(See, I can go extreme with something too ;) )

Most things can be used as weapons. A gun can, but as long as you don't use a gun to hurt another person, or unless you are in law enforcement (/ military / bounty hunter / hired hitman for russian mafia), its fine! I really don't see a problem with it, unless some idiot is stupid enough to leave it around where a little kid might get at it (Plus if he is also stupid enough to keep it loaded and ready to fire)

of course, those things do happen, and we have to expect them to happen in order to better keep our heads straight.
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-04 20:53:38 UTC Post #139408
If memory serves me right, I believe that the murder rate was under 5,000 in the 60's. Then a few years after the Supreme court repealed the death penalty in the 70's, the murder rate soared to over 20,000. After the death penalty was reinstated, the murder rate slowly dropped back down to around 10,000.

The odd thing is that in other countries, the murder rate dropped when the death penalty was repealed. Just the opposite of the US. Were a weird country :zonked:

Worldcraft Dude, your avatar confuses, how can a steel crowbar (blunt object....sort of) possibly break through

1 Energy Shields
2 Titaniaum A armor plating
3 Vacum Sealed Titaniaum and Rubber Chainmail
4 Argumented Bones with the strength of steel

sorry if thats a bit off topic :
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-04 21:19:40 UTC Post #139412
the same way an elite can, by bashing the sheilds down and ripping off the titanium Alloy, then quite easily breakskin and make the Sparten Bleed to death. plus theres no titanium at the neck, so a few hard swings will get through the sheilds and rubber then slice your aorta in two.

and that the entire reason why freeman has things like the gluon gun and the gauss. along with the combine pulse rifle and the RPG

It's peoples' own loss if they keep changing their avatars, because people won't recognise them. A few people can get away with it because their... personality is so distinctive, but otherwise it's just rather confusing.

Your Aorta isnt in your neck ;) its a valve in your heart.
Just another thought on gun violence, if you own a gun, but it isnt for killin stuff, what is it for? Why would someone want to own a gun unless they wanted to end something else's life.. I agree about the military thing.. I think you should have to prove sane mind, and good accuracy to be trusted with a fire arm.. I'm not necessarily saying that every person who has joined the military is right in the head, but at least it would be safer that any average joe owning one.

People use guns for sport...

Firing range... Hunting...

They also use them for protection...

Yes, there are practicle uses for guns. That is not the issue, this is pretty much accepted by both sides.

Hunting...

They also use them for protection...
Er, those both mean 'killing things', pretty much :).

Shooting is fun, though. I've been a few times on firing ranges.

Posted 18 years ago2005-10-06 17:54:40 UTC Post #139940
Firing ranges are the only places where guns should be allowed. And to be honest, I don't think you need a real weapon for target practice.
I can also think of multiple uses for a knife and a chainsaw, but what guns mostly do is:
1)Kill animals, 2)kill people, 3)break stuff.
You could also say that they are used for disuasion, but that disuasion is based on the fact that guns kill people.
I really don't see a problem with it, unless some idiot is stupid enough to leave it around where a little kid might get at it
Well, we should all have atomic bombs in our basements too, since they are not bad unless we use them to hurt people ;)
if we were to outlaw guns here in the U.S., these "bad people" would still obtain their firearms
Might be true, but if they were outlawed, it would be much more difficult to get guns, and less bad people would have them. In my country, crimes related to guns are very infrequent, and are usually related to mafias and organized crime. Average street criminals have a harder time finding that kind of weapons. :
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-06 20:50:49 UTC Post #139960
I see your point, although the "good people" who pretty much would only use their gun as self defence would not have their protection, where the "bad people" would have all the power, since they have their illegle gun.

If someone is going to do something illegal with a gun, then there is nothing stopping them from getting the gun illegally.

(Yes, I do have problems with spelling ileagle)
