It is a Brainwashing, and a severe one. Someone with reason and logic would say that society has placed itself in an unfair win-win situation, baiting the gullible people into beliveving they can be what they are not meant to be and leaving the minority of wise people without a great voice to make a difference. Withing this cunning scheme is the underlying motive of cowardice.

For Example...

Although my sources for this may be a little unreliable, I am lead to believe that the Sierra Club endorses hammering nails into trees. This may seem harmless, but the sole purpose of these nails are to stop people from cutting these trees down. When a man carrying a chainsaw tries to cut down the tree, the chain will hit the nail, will de-rail, and could end up killing the man.

Also,
If there was a plot of land that was being cleared to build a hospital that would potentially save thousands of lives, they would protest cutting down any trees that were in that plot of land.

Start up half Life and before you do anything type "gl_max_size 1" in the console. It sets the max size for any texture or sprite to be one unit and when you play the game look cell shaded.
