Is there Any way to totally reinstall Windows installer without reinstalling the whole OS?

My Win installer is borked and i can't install/uninstall anything at all :(

insert os cd, restart, boot from cd, then when prompted press r to repair you windows. this won't wipe anything

i'll try that alex. but the prob is that i have no WinXp cd :P

and evilsod, i've tried that. it says that the .dll file is corrupted

uninstall windows installer. Then you'll have no problems. That's what I did, and I had none whatsoever. Then if you ever do need it again, get v.3.5.

I think you should try a proper techie place ? or maybe even Microsoft support.

Microsoft ask for CD numbers and crap :/ and since he hasn't got a cough CD then he is screwed :(

Just to let everyone know. The situation resolved itself.. Not quite sure how I did it though..

I "repaired" WinXP as alexb911 suggested, when I had done that my Windows wouldn't launch at all so i did a system restore. That did it.

But now I have other issues, like sound only coming out of one speaker (i have surround) :P

I'll deal with that tomorrow.. Thanx to everyone who tried to help!
