My entry for the TWHL Map From Layout competition.
I made the most of the map in about 2 days, but I spent most of the time porting all the materials and such over and figuring out little bugs. Still a couple of little issues which I can't be bothered fixing.
To play, just unzip the archive into your hl2mp folder and run it. The zip has the folder structures and such all set up correctly so all custom materials should work.
Credit to Team Dystopia for some of the custom materials and models (including some of my own, since I'm on the team).
Thanks to Dewdle for uploading and Rabid for hosting.
Enjoy.
Realy nice new texturing, what language are they in?
And the futuristic car models cool. Tho, i hope the future wont be that demolished 4.5 stars.
In terms of connectivity, there are quite a few nice touches such as improvised planks that enhance the layout in a believable way, giving players a lot of options. While the map might feel small, there's still plenty of room to move around and hide, which IMO makes it a good choice for a small LAN party.
Among the things I didn't like so much was the darkness in quite a few places , the lack of sound ambience, and some minor things like invisible clip brushes.
Overall 83/100 = 5 stars
Reminds me of Blade Runner, only not quite as tall.
The general mapping quality is high.
The custom signs are very pretty, and the layout is great. The mapping is of a good standard and it seems pretty 'real'. There is a lack of sound ambience, but I'm sure 16 people firing guns at each other would give you enough to listen to anyway.
Bang up job
Like the darkness and the neon lights. Hooray for being one of the entries who actually took the five minutes to make a skybox. No ambiance is a downer, no soundscapes from what I could tell but then again the other compo map I tested didn't have them either.
The layout is good, but the layout is good for all the compo entries because, well, its a map from layout compo.
Custom material usage was top-notch though, if you have connections to custom materials of this quality and quantity then by all means, use them. Good job on that. Even if what appeared to me was a concrete wall (it was holding up a brick wall, so it better have been) made metal bullets sounds/decals.
Those things are just little nitpicking though, overall very well done. As Kasberg said, this would make a great LAN map.
No, all the models are from the mod Dystopia, and made by various people on the mod team, as said in the map description.
And killing people with Trapt's massive erection, which can be found behind a metal sheet is always good.
