Airsoftfort has two versions!
tag_airsoftfort is an fy style map with an objective other than "kill the other team". It has 4 hostages that spawn inside of their own rescue zones. This means that all a CT must do is "tag" them out to rescue them. The airsoft theme is kept up not only with the thin wooden buildings but also by everyone being equipped with an MP5 (with a few shotgun pickups laying around) so that there is no bullet penetration. The counter-terrorists can spawn on either side of the map meaning terrorists must prepare for an attack from both sides.
de_airsoftfort is simply a bomb defuse version of tag_airsoft fort. T and CT spawns are swapped, hostages have been removed, and two bombsites have been placed in the two upper buildings that do not have stairways. Players are also equipped with kevlar on this version.
Both the maps in this download have an _nw suffix, standing for "no wad" because some servers were having issues downloading the small custom wad that came with the original maps. I recompiled a version of each map with the textures from the troublesome wad file embedded into the bsp.
"The counter-terrorists can spawn on either side of the map".
That's why Airsoft Fort is interesting and fun to play. I wish I knew a low-populated server with this map and nice people.
De_ version wasn't that interesting though.
I'm trying to come up with some other ideas for small maps with the "tag" hostage setup. I had an idea in it's early stages but I scrapped it because the layout was terrible. I have another map that I just finished that uses the same setup but it's a much larger map with this ambitious fun/goofy obstacle course setup that wasn't too popular on my clan's server.
I don't know the name of it and I've never played it, but I saw a brief bit of a Nipper map in a video that had hostages that spawned inside their rescue zones, but he had replaced the hostage model with these little gems or something so it was like you were "collecting" the gems. This is where I got the idea for it, but I specifically wanted to apply it to small maps for fast gameplay that could replace the countless fy and aim maps that are typically played before my clan's server fills up.
You can even make a CS:GO map. Even though its cs_ gamemode has slightly different rules (even if one of the hostages is saved CTs win) the gamemode will be even more interesting because of it.
I really like this map. Maybe it's pretty simple and doesn't have any beautiful structures (48-sided cylinders, trimmed arches, etc.), it's good just because it's fun to play. I'd never think of such a gamemode. Nice job! =)
