Point cloud modeling tools would be useful. Just color the points and forget about UV mapping and limits.

Brendanmint has the greatest point of all. Graphics are certainly not the only aspect of a video game. I feel we will see the same gaming tropes and shit over and over, only much much prettier.

I'll wait for Unlimited II thank you.

EDIT: I just realized that the most feasible application of this to games in a technical way is to have a cloud data layer (volume layer?) then have the polygon based physics and collision layers underneath all of that. Like different hulls in HL and stuff.

Also, new tools will need to be invented to handle creation. A studio cannot simply build a set on a sound stage for every part of the game, so I imagine it would be close to sculpting in a way, see Zbrush and that kind of stuff. I couldn't imagine sculpting/constructing in a completely organic and polygon-free environment. Seems kinda sci-fi to me.

I don't know why the quicksave/load stuff is busted. The map autosaves and that doesn't work any better. I thought it was just me so I didn't dabble into it too much. Sorry to hear the saving is broken for you too, I don't know how to fix it.

Rats can walk very slowly along path_corners.
I haven't looked into SoHL and if the rats might be different in some way.

Why explosives work so well is because the origin, which is just a point, is calculated for explosives. It makes sense because it's one point to calculate rather that calculating blast damage for every hitbox. It's what I would do to. :/

In theory a crossbow bolt could work if the bolt's hitbox has the rat's origin inside it. It would then deal the damage... only in theory though. That kind of aim is uncanny and would be unreliable.

Should we make a thread for this? Call it "Black Mesa: X-Squad!"

EDIT: If this becomes a mod thing, we can do more. I could reskin the keycard or the weaponbox to look like the rat... or red coins for the lulz.

I couldn't manage to kill a rat with anything other than explosives like grenades, ar grenades, satchels, rockets, and tripmines. Rats DO have hit boxes around their hip and torso, but the hbox ID is 0 being generic where as 3, 4, 9, are hip, torso, and head.

I wonder if I had an HD pack version of the rat or something. None of my attempts to fix anything worked.
Commented 10 years ago2014-07-08 00:26:08 UTC in journal: #8400 Comment #42321
Good question Strider, I haven't tried a monster_generic yet.
The roach has the trigger and target stuff respectively, but I found that for no reason it doesn't trigger anything on death.

I also tried a work around using a giant trigger brush. Monsters only trigger it when they move, so its unreliable. Interesting findings all around....
Commented 10 years ago2014-07-07 17:15:31 UTC in journal: #8400 Comment #42320
if the monster is stuck in a wall, fireflies will show up and give its location away.

There are so many ways to do it. Possibly a map pack could be made of this.

Also, I stand corrected that leeches don't work for this. Rats it is for then :] But geez everytime I go to do something kinda cool, the HL code or otherwise just gets in the way.

EDIT: I tried fixing the rat's hit boxes but it didn't work. So I guess we'll just have to be clever with the grenades...

I was thinking each time you kill a rat, you get some grenades. That way the game is perpetuating, but if you waste all of your nades guessing or missing, you run out and essentially lose. I have some triggerwork to do but, once again, its simple.

If you really want that, go ahead.

So baby crab are a lot bigger than I thought. Though they are the smallest enemy in the game aside from the roaches.

I forgot about the rats. Though you can't shoot them, they are killed by explosions only.

Leeches work. Killed by anything, tiny, fully working code. I'm going to use leeches. Though rats sound incredibly tempting....
Commented 10 years ago2014-07-07 16:04:07 UTC in journal: #8400 Comment #42318
Yeah no template really necessary.
Manually place all of the crabs and have them target a game_counter on death, then have the counter target the game win stuff. I'm thinking the system vox basically say something like "doop level clear" then quit or level change. Simple simple simple stuff.

Go nuts.

Tetsuo that's really interesting. I've never played a real slot machine and the ones on the internet that don't involve real money are derpy from the bunch that I played before I started the project. I'm always looking for things to add to the Shop and buying lines could be a possibility.

I never wrote down the immediate stop trick in my fix log, and when I updated it, I had a lot to do and it slipped. The trick happens because the cycle changes every 0.1 seconds. Pulling the lever MAY give you a chance to stop it depending on when you are in that 0.1 second window. Sometimes it misses and the reel flips to the next icon. Shit it would be nothing to add a slight cool down for the lever. :/

I dug into a bullshit amount of research about how these things work. I decided to remove the odds so that the player can enjoy winning with their own skill of stopping the reels as well as testing their own natural luck with stopping the reel within the 0.1 second window. Normally a real slot machine just picks them at random with a chance that you win only SOME of the time so that you have the illusion that you can win. Truth is you can't and the odds of getting anything remotely better than breaking even is 8000 to 1. I didn't want to make a bullshit game that just takes away your virtual money, no one would play it.

The inner workings is massively procedural so if you have suggestions, I want to hear them.

I kinda forgot you freelanced. I wish I was as successful as you were. Do yourself the biggest justice ever and never come to America looking for big work. It's not here, Americans can't even get American jobs.

When I started out, I had no experience for design stuff so I freelanced. Just found out the other day that I freelanced so much that I'm over qualified for most of the jobs I can handle short of a position at a gaming studio. YET I don't have enough actual gaming experience or a strong enough portfolio to get into a studio. I'm am quite perfectly fucked. My usual pool of clients that I did freelance for dried up this year so nothing has progressed. I'm basically living off of the good will of others and I feel absolutely awful. I didn't mean to spill this all over your journal, I'm just having some trouble sorting it out.

Either way, I wish you the absolute best. I don't know what kind of area you live in, but at least you have skills that are more widely useful than mine being in media stuff. Best of luck to ya.

Yes I am working in stencyl. It looks cheesy but that all depends on the user, as it IS powerful enough to make anything you want in 2D. Most of the community are younger kids or developers making fancy things. Its a giant trolling contest for the kids, a giant pissing contest for the developers. I don't spend much time there.

And as for as my Kegels ...they're just fine (I'm a Belly Dancer remember? I can do stuff..neat stuff, anyway)...If you wanna know about Rim's Prostate..well, that's another matter entirely LOL (Need I say that this is still Lyssa? XD)

Hello All!
Lyssa Here.
Rim's Procedure went..well....ish...
He had the chance of letting other doctors who wanted to learn the procedure be present for his (also it took $100 of the procedure, but we'll say he did it for medical advancement)
The thing is, we did not realize until things got going that one of the doctors learning the procedure would be learning it on HIM.
The main Dr who perfected the scalpel-less procedure guided and took charge when needed, but well...
Put it this way, at one point Rim asked if the Dr had lost his pocket watch in there....
It was a bit, just, more then either of us expected. A usual 10-15 min procedure to 50 min. Rim counted every..single..one...

He mostly slept when we got home. Sadly no good pain meds were given (they said there is no need, I don't have balls, but they fucking LIE) anyway so I gave him some of his left over pain meds from his Kidney stone.

He is up and around today, not in nearly as much pain as yesterday, which is good. He will probably continue to just do some light activities today and resume normal stuff tomorrow.

And as far as "fun" we must wait 12 weeks and 20 ejaculations...specifically, then he gets tested, and if no swimmers are detected, THEN we can have our fun.

He doesn't regret getting it, just maybe not having had been the guinea pig so to speak. I'm sure he'll regale you with tales of how they turned is vas deferens into balloon animals and such later on today (vas deferens=what they cut and clamp to make him not produce swimmers)

Someone else ah.... Striker..asked about testosterone. He wasn't castrated (where the testicles are removed) just had the the spaghetti separated form the meatballs so to speak.
the only thing that will go away are the swimmers. Everything else stays the same :)
He appreciates your kind words of support, thanks guys.

Aw I see. I get really good results with the node size being 128 or even 64 and compiling on precise vis mode. Also, its very common for maps to have much higher poly counts as modern computers are powerful enough to handle the higher count. No one really runs HL in software mode anyway unless by choice. Even I after a while, just stopped caring and focused on a nice even level of detail, generally staying below 3000 of course just in case.
