Laser cutter, 3D printer... What are you preparing for

That's actually what a lot of people do lol, i'd probably be willing to make parts for you if you were actually willing to build it.

I really want to buy one of these, but I'm afraid I'll use it twice and never touch it again... Another thing that worries me is that I'd want to print gun parts, which I'm guessing without googling about it is extremely illegal?

I WOULD like to get one eventually doe, AND I would like to get a wide-carriage laser cutter too very badly =P

Yea I can probably make something "that" for you. It'll be a while before I get my printer though, I think two weeks after I order it. I'll keep y'all updated.

Also 3D printing takes a really long time. I plan on mostly using it to create casts for ceramics as I can't make pottery on the wheel with out it collapsing. I blame my wheel's lower rpm than Brent wheels...

CT, yeah, I've tried it, but you gotta realize that flipped models, especially when working with high poly models, CANNOT be made into papercraft... I have though, before, made some low poly models and printed them with Pepakura, but low poly is NOT my thing.. Especially since I model aircrafts for use with FSX.

And Zeeba, no worries, about your pottery wheel, low RPM? Give me specs on the Motor, Power wattage/etc. I do electrical works for buildings, R/C aircrafts, and etc, so I may be able to suggest ways to improve the buggers speed for you.

I mean, guys, if we can help each other, why the hell not? We should actually put a qualifications/skills section here and see how we can help each other.

Cooul, will do. @Captain, not an automatic one but I've played with a stationary hot wire that you could run foam through.

Captain: I don't think 3D printing gun parts would be illegal, considering 3D printers generally just print in a soft plastic which would be completely useless for functional gun parts.

I suppose it would be of the same legality as having a lathe and iron working tools and making iron gun parts.

Stu from what I understand, you can use high-density plastic for more strength. There is a guy out there that printed a m4 assault rifle!

SOME parts like the firing pin and I think a few other things are still metal, but the lower receiver(the only regulated part of the gun) is entirely printed afaik)

iirc, in the US the only parts that there would be any issues printing would be the regulated parts. So for example the lower receiver of an AR-15.
And those are legal to home-build anyway as long as they're not illegal for other reasons (full-auto, etc.), and they're not being made with the intent of selling them.

I would love to get a 3D printer myself, but if I were to buy something like that I'd probably buy a hobby lathe first.

You can get a small lathe for a little over 100 bucks at harbor freight. I did and it's awesome.

I wonder what color I should pick. You can choose between black and silver metal and black, blue and red plastic parts.

The more I look into these, the more I think I'm gonna wait for them to improve more before buying one.. I like the precision of these more, but I'm sure these come with their own set of problems/quirks too..

I'm interested in the Gmax because of its print size being 16"x16"x9".

And for non-Americans that is 40x40x23cm. That's a much bigger space than the rest offer. Thicker resolution though. (75 micron, the one I posted being able to do 20)

It says 50 microns on their website, I think 75 microns was their preliminary specs they were aiming for before it was completed.

I just ordered it with silver metal and red plastic. I asked them if they could make my plastic bright green though instead. It's not offered but I've seen it online.

Ugh I've contacted the website gcreate about my order but they haven't responded since the weekend. And I wasn't even charged for my order...
