You should really try it next time you use Goldsource. You'll wonder how you lived without Movewith, particle effects, and the ability to specify models for specific NPCs.
The game's being coded in C++ with modern OpenGL. Our main programmer is really skilled, but he wanted to get all the rendering framework down first, so we don't have any gameplay code at all at the moment. One other guy has been doing the sound engine exclusively, which is currently using FMOD and completely hardcoded, which gives me 0 flexibility when choosing sounds. Our 3D artist, who is the only other person who can really code, has been focusing on his job and helping us out with the other course assignments which include code.

This year we're doing a 2.5D platformer loosely based on the world of Mary Norton's The Borrowers. By the time it's done it's supposed to have 5 enemy types appearing/reappearing in each level, a miniboss per level (neither of which was our decision - course requirements) and a climbing mechanic using player-placed thumbtacks. So far we have a graphics pipeline using modern OpenGL and the ability to move an object in 3D space with no collision or physics.
It's hard to be optimistic right now.

When I first heard about this, I was just really glad it was unmanned. Massive financial loss, I'm sure, and I hope it wasn't carrying, like, food or anything else that's needed on the ISS urgently, but at least nobody died in the blast. Really impressed that the control room personnel were able to remain calm.

Dim, I'll have you know that we won 1812 just as much as you guys did. The White House isn't newer than that for nothing, after all.
Also, @Tet: I'm not an American, but I thought Obama was doing a pretty good job with the shitty situation he was elected into, despite the continual efforts of congress to make sure nothing got done in the past 5 years of his presidency.

Best of luck - though I hope that whichever side wins, wins by a landslide. It'd be no good to start yet another civil war in the world because Scotland is torn 50/50 over whether or not to leave.

You'll probably want to get an interpreter of some kind that runs it on a modern PC and maybe has a more modern control scheme than Arrow Keys + Control + Space.

I was actually planning on doing Brutal Doom for a second playthrough - it's the reason I finally got around to buying the games.
And yeah, Strider, I agree. I think a lot of people would consider it a dumb corridor shooter, since there's not much in the way of story development, but the levels in Doom are some of the best mazes I've seen inside or outside of a shooter - just getting through one level takes more thought than 90% of modern FPS games. Combine that with the enemy AI and the weapons, and you have spot-on gameplay that takes little work to get into but much to master.
I've done all 3 original episodes of Doom I and am what I think is most of the way through Doom II, and the only reason I stopped there is because I've been playing all day long and felt the need to get something productive done besides admiring/analyzing classic gameplay design.

Condolences, Archie. No shame in crying when you lose a pet - they're a member of the family, and losing them is hard. But like CT and Rim said, you had a lot of years with her, and she must have had a wonderful life with you.

While a few parts of the layout could be improved (like the one-way-only upper level), it's a blast to play even with small groups, and lends itself to some hilarious encounters - I planted some mines, then came back minutes later to push an unsuspecting Dimbark back into them as he killed me. The textures and architecture or excellently done, and a nice taste of what's to come with The Core. The few pieces of "tech" in the map are a nice touch, adding some contrast to the mostly concrete structure of the area.
I really should hold off until I play it with more people to rate it, but frankly, it's great, and not even the little layout problems can hold me off from giving this a perfect score.

I'm also trying to do a playthrough of New Vegas, (though not recording it, because I'm not funny) but it keeps crashing. Are you having any stability problems on your system?

(1600x900 and 1920x1080, respectively)
Thanks all!
Though hopefully I won't have an opportunity to try this myself for a while - I can't afford a new monitor!
Also, I don't live in Toronto, so I don't see where you get off saying I have any connection to Rob Ford.

However...

I should get a credit card and order a copy.
EDIT: Actually, I think the note involves immolating Urby, not terminating his employment.
But also never remembered.
That's a hell of a way to go by foot, though.
Also, it's got SMJ's art and sound design, so I'll let it pass with flying colors!
