I was at a tech event last year where I got to put my camera aside and test a first-gen Rift (I think it was first-gen... but it was long enough ago that I don't remember). It was quite impressive as far as immersion but the picture was shit. It was all pixelly and blurry.
I can't afford any anyway, so I'll wait for the second generation of VR devices. It's only an educated guess but I'm sure the second generation will be battery powered and wireless. That will be something I look forward to.

Your life will suck for a year or so then you will be fine. Just treasure the good memories and forget the rest. You surely learned a lot from it.

I second what Jeff said. The layers dialog was probably conceived based on the layers mechanics of AutoCAD, Illustrator, or other graphics programs. Sort of like Visgroups. Layers might have been cleaner, but maybe it's just visgroups that are only poorly implemented. It looks like it's probably the most interesting of them all.
As for the animation control, perhaps it was originally planned to edit models as well then that feature was dropped.

I too was wary of spending money through the internet, but as time went by I was exposed to enough of it to tell the difference between serious and scam. Non-tech-savvy parents weren't exposed to any of it so they can be justified in their distrust. It's a new thing to them.

As for the sub-level with the crates, perhaps the amount of breakable crates (that is, entities) they added later were enough to bog down 1998 computers and they decided to split it to keep it playable.
Remember having a 300MHz processor was like experimental crazy fast at the time. The computer I got in 1999 was a 333MHz Cyrix with 32MB of RAM and... 8MB of video memory, I think.

Some people may not be very well acquainted with the inner workings of their computer and its operating system, but the whole point of this is that people who do are pissed because Windows is doing things behind their back despite their explicit setting not to take a certain action. And with reason. Wouldn't you be pissed if your computer decided to do something you specifically told it not to do?
The features (or lack of) of a new OS aside, it is my computer. I'm the one who paid for it and its sole purpose is to serve me, that is why I have it. No matter what it offers and how much it insists, the last say should be mine.
In this thread (and other threads related to the topic) you called me, as well as others, autistic, computer illiterate, and lazy. I take offense to that.

- I know enough about Architecture to know I know how to make it look natural, yet
- I have few ideas and even less time.
