When configuring Hammer, it seems best to not set the default SolidEntity class to: worldspawn. Reason being - when you go to create a brush entity, you cannot change the class(I do not believe one wants a 'worldspawn' everytime they attempt to create a brush entity). I don't, currently, know the technicalities that prevent this; but, it is very frustrating and could inhibit someone just starting to learn goldsource map-editing in Hammer(most importantly, working with brush entities).

There may be other entities classes that cause this, if set as default in the 'Game Configurations' tab under tools>options.

P.S. There isn't any other instance on the web, that I could find, mentioning this.

You know that you still can change the entity type of a brush? Simly open up its properties and pick a different entity from the class list.

You're talking about right-clicking on the brush in one of the 2-D panes/pressing alt+enter, right? That's what this is referring to. I should have also mentioned I'm using Hammer v3.4, it probably works fine in other versions.

I changed the default to func_wall, making brush entities works as it should, now.

Upgrade to 3.5.

Just for others' info - Hammer version 3.5 still produces the error(what I consider an error). So, if you wish to save yourself some frustration, try to avoid setting 'worldspawn' as the SolidEntity default.

Thank you for your input, MuzzleFlash.

Uh... wat. This is not a problem. It's not an error. And Hammer 3.4 is TECHNICALLY more solid than 3.5 which is a beta. Even as rusty as I am, I can still remember that I'd always set my brush based entites manually by just selecting the type from the drop down list in the properties. Because it's not like func_wall is the only one in existence, even if you do use it somewhat commonly.

Edit: Oh, wait, I get what you're saying better now. But does hammer by default have that as the solid entity setting? Because I never changed it myself. But yeah, the worldspawn entity is that one that I only ever accessed by going up into the map properties or some crap like that. I don't remember it appearing within my entity list any time. Maybe you've got a different FGD than the standard one I was using.

I initially set the options that way, but it isn't too difficult to make this mistake; it's an inconsistency that should be addressed.

I put this up for trouble-shooting purposes, in the hopes it will someday be useful to someone that is encountering such a problem.

I am using the FGDs that came with the v3.4 distribution.
