Is the PhysX card really worth it?

Awesome! Hope I can follow you on that.

I'm just waiting on my graphics card. It will be in my pc shortly though.

For games, yes.
The PPU will take over the physics calculations done by the GPU, giving the GPU even more resources to calculate and render graphics.

"The PPU will take over the physics calculations done by the GPU, giving the GPU even more resources to calculate and render graphics."

That's only available for games which used PhysX, and there are few games with PhysX. Or PhysX dependant.

There are more PhysX coming.
The new Batman game for example also has PhysX support and there are more games will follow.

Not a single frameskip or lagspike. Win.

@ Unb and CR: No more XP for me. :)
One month of Vista, then 7.

Atom,

mat_picmip -10
mat_parallax 1

In the console.

Makes ep2 look even better :P
Commented 14 years ago2009-09-19 21:37:53 UTC Comment #38376
I tried both those and i didn/t see any difference what-so-ever.
I changed picmip to -10, and then back to -1 where it was originally, and at -1, i could see water reflections in the distance and model shadows were nice and crisp, but with -10 i could NOT see the far off water reflections and the shadows seemed to blur...

But on topic.... Sweet setup!
Grats Atom!

If you really want PhysX, you're better off getting a cheap Nvidia 9 series card. At least it'll be useful for someone else once the novelty wears off.

You have my graphics card :)

Weird Tetsu0, both improve the graphics greatly for me. There are also other people that say it works/doesnt work for them. I guess such is the way with console commands >_>
Commented 14 years ago2009-09-20 00:22:06 UTC Comment #38373
I thought mat_picmip -10 only made a difference in TF2, and parallax was actually disabled in the OB engine (it once worked in Episode One).

That's what I thought anyway.

Why not vista x64?
Commented 14 years ago2009-09-20 07:30:04 UTC Comment #38367
Air Tower Destroy: No difference for me as well.

mat_parallax turns out to be an unkown command. Should'nt it be mat_parallaxmap? I tried it anyway, and there was no difference.

Bummer.

Maybe you can post some comparison screenshots?

Don't doubt Strider, he knows ALL.

Tried it in Ep1 as well. No dice.
Commented 14 years ago2009-09-20 12:04:09 UTC Comment #38374
Parallax isn't actually used in Episode One, but if I recall correctly it was at least supported in the engine, or could be enabled with a small bit of coding... something to that extent anyway, then they took it out in the OB engine update. I figure it must've caused problems with their new renderer and since they didn't plan on using it, they simply removed it.

Blargh.

I'll make some comparison shots later if I get off my lazy ass.

Wow, awesome system! A fairly decent price as well.
The processing power you have is amazing - enjoy the 1 sec. load times for Photoshop or the 2-sec. compiles of any apps you'll be working on. :]

:D

Ep2 boots up in like 5/6 seconds!

The guy owning you-pc.nl is actually a friend of mine, i know him for more than 10 years now, so i got a little off the original price (?1000+).
