I got tired of the first Mass Effect after about an hour, so I guess there's no point for me to "buy" the sequel. I think I was expecting it to be a lot like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and that's why I was disappointed. It's either that or the game simply sucked.

It was probably your expectations since even the first ME was one of the most highly rated games ever. Honestly, there are VERY few people out there that actually don't like Mass Effect.

So yeah, it's just you.

I did play the original Mass Effect, and I thoroughly enjoyed that game.

That's why when one of my patients recommended me Mass Effect 2, I simply couldn't resist.

It's good so far, and I like all the little improvements over the original Mass Effect. The play mechanics and combat controls are better, and I am so glad to learn that the clunky Mako is gone. I hated driving that thing.

I've never played Mass Effect, although one of my friends is a big fan of it.

"Getting" it now. My brother recommended it to me, just never got it.

They added some DLC with a new vehicle, but it's way better than the Mako ever was.
Also, the inventory system... THANK GOD.

I hated how they made space for sprint/cover/jump. Worst idea ever.

Can't you change it? I have it on 360 so I have no problems with that...

I played Mass Effect a few weekends back, really enjoyed it. Waiting a few weeks before I start on Mass Effect 2 :)

Reviewed Mass Effect a while ago and hated it. Horrid inventory, repetitive side missions, buggy vehicles and no explanation of the player classes at the start of the game.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-16 20:04:49 UTC Comment #47996
Those are all such small details. And ME2 fixes ALL of those. The vehicle wasn't buggy, it just had shitty controls. Also, there are also descriptions of each class. They're not like damn short stories, but they're there.

I've had this conversation with Ant before, saw1833. You can't change his opinion. :P

He's only person I know who didn't enjoy it!

Mass Effect is a great game. Flawed yes, but all the positives drew my attention away from the problems, then Mass Effect 2 smashed them.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 00:16:40 UTC Comment #47984
I can't wait to do more of the smashing myself.

It took me a long time before I got the hang of the combat system in the original Mass Effect. I kept dying, even in the beginning levels. I am not having any problem with Mass Effect 2. I defeated the first boss on my first attempt.

One of my biggest gripes about the first Mass Effect was the combat system. Sometimes it got so frustrating that I almost gave up on the game. I remember when I was on the Liara mission, it must have taken me thirty tries before I killed that fucking Krogan.

I went through mass effect 2 twice. First time I had no idea what the story in the first one was and just resorted to brute strenght, I did this on normal and still died some time. Second time I had finished the first one twice and had the max lvl and stuff so I got a lot of bonuses in me2, This time I went for a much more tactical setup, combining all three aspects of the abilities (physical, plasma and the other one, tech i think?) I finished the entire thing this time on the max difficulty and rarely ever died. It was so easy to kick ass when combining all those special abilities on multiple targets.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 11:43:36 UTC Comment #47997
Having played through and beat it the first time just in ME2 gets you bonuses, but importing an ME1 save also helps a bunch. I started an Insanity playthrough on ME2, but never finished it. I'll have to do that some day...
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 12:11:50 UTC Comment #47985
I didn't know you can import your Shepard from ME1 to ME2.

Wouldn't that be an unfair advantage over all those who are playing ME2 without ME1?
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 12:38:41 UTC Comment #47998
A little. But you still start at level 1, it's not like "OMG LEVEL 30 ALREADY PWN PWN PWN" or anything. Just some money, and MOSTLY the decisions you make in ME1 can COMPLETELY change ME2. Like Wrex living or dying, who you date, who you kill, the SIDE MISSIONS YOU DO.

Yeah. EVERYTHING.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 12:43:30 UTC Comment #47986
It sounds like I really should start over and import my Shepard from ME1. I saved the game on my old computer, and it never occurred to me to import the character.

It did bother me when I started playing ME2 when I found out the Council died and Kaden Alenko died. I saved them and I also saved Wrex. I was maxed out on paragon points by the time I finished.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 13:03:50 UTC Comment #47999
Yeah that'll change your game drastically.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 14:01:01 UTC Comment #47978
Went through a phase of playing ME1 every day. Got to a point where no matter what I do, the game crashes. Haven't gone back to it since. Played the ME2 demo though and that was pretty sweet.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-17 19:01:12 UTC Comment #47987
Thanks for the tip. I have started a new career for Shepard using my character's legacy from the previous Mass Effect. Now all the historical plot lines in ME2 match my decisions from the original game.

In addition, I got a bunch of credits and bonuses. :)
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-18 09:07:04 UTC Comment #48004
First time I did ME2 I had no idea wtf was going on and why people hated me, turned out I made the council die and did a bunch of bad stuff before hand, I believe if you haven't played ME1 and imported your Shepard, the questions Miranda asks you at the beginning determine who died and lived in the last game.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-18 23:04:03 UTC Comment #47988
The default setting was that the Councils died, Wrex died, and Kaden Alenko died. So if you have no imports, those were the settings that you stuck with.

I picked Ashley to sacrifice herself in ME1 because I never liked her. She's a racist bitch.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-19 07:47:42 UTC Comment #47979
Indeed she is. But she was also uninteresting.

Anyway I hold the Mass Effect series in high regard as I thouroughly enjoyed ME1 and loved seeing my choices transfer over to ME2.

I played ME1 waaaaaay back and loved it. The music especially. Then ME2 was coming round the corner and I reformatted so low and behold I got another chance to play ME1 again. Anyway it took longer than I expected and I literally rushed through the three main planets on the day ME2 was arriving.

It was very adrenaline pumping to get through as much of the game as possible and listening to the history of the Protheans with the music in the background really made the start of ME2 more amazing.

Best of all was the fact ME2 ran so much better than ME1. I don't want to spoil anything but I will say that a certain part in ME2, about halfway had a huge impact on me because I had played ME1 just before ME2. You'll know what I mean when you hear "the" music.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-19 09:57:15 UTC Comment #48005
You guys should prolly not forget to save your game and make all the best choices, as well as make sure everyone survives, cause me3 will prolly do the same import thing.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-19 11:15:05 UTC Comment #47989
BioWare is committed in making the third part of the trilogy. I have no doubt that the import feature will be more easily accessible than from ME1 to ME2. The current process is not very user-friendly. It should happen almost automatically.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-19 14:28:49 UTC Comment #47980
cause me3 will prolly do the same import thing.

Yeah, the menu's in ME2 basically say to keep your saves for ME3.
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-19 14:51:42 UTC Comment #48006
Yeah just reminding y'all, since I remember someone mentioning he didn't keep his ME1 files (Satchmo I believe).
Commented 14 years ago2010-10-20 03:07:17 UTC Comment #47976
I have my ME1 saves backed up, but I think I forgot to keep my ME2 saves when I formatted recently. Good excuse to replay it, methinks.

I'm trying to decipher this but it's not ringing any bells...

When you meet an old friend and when you expect a warm welcome they just say how sad they were and then walk away.
