So new development. Basically one night I wanted to listen to some music through my headphones like I usually do when I noticed sound was only coming out of one headphone.

So I contact Dell and also mention the freezing problem I used to get is still here. I honestly can't find a pattern to the freezing but the PC could be fine a week and the next it could freeze once a day.

Anyway as I said, I contacted Dell who told me to run the usual tests and it found nothing. Next thing I know I get an email today from them telling me they're now sending a new harddrive and a techy to install it. I've asked if it'll have windows 7 because quite honestly I believe Vista is a piece of shit and caused most of my problems.

So there ya go. Either Dell sent me a shoddy PC 3 years ago and it has slowly been dying or they're just generous.

Either way that's a new graphics card, motherboard and now a harddrive. What next? ram? Cause I get a lot of memory errors lul.

I've gotten that issue before, but for me it's always meant that my headphones are broken.

Maybe if you built it yourself you wouldn't have such a crappy computer to start with?

Maybe you are just deaf in one ear. Did you try snapping real close to make sure? Congrats on the new hard drive. I hope you get Windows 7 with it because it's pretty nifty. I've never tried Vista, but I do enjoy 7.

You're all right. I do not like the idea of my PC being built by someone else but I don't have the knowledge, time or money to learn. On the bright side at least I get all this hardware for the low low price of 100 pounds for three years.

Anyway to my dismay, Vista is back on. The technician himself admitted Vista is and I quote "crap" and when I told him I asked the lady in the email if I could have Windows 7 to which she said no. Why? Cause the technician will only install what came with the machine. He agreed with that to some extent and I doubt he'd have installed 7 behind their backs.

Oh well, as long as the freezing is gone I'm happy. They also fixed the audio problem. Some hardware...the front plate, they called it was broken so yet again that was replaced.

Now I can listen to late night music wearing "nothing at allllll".

Luckily for you, learning to build your own computer is very, very easy. When the time comes for you to get a new PC, grab a mate who knows a bit about it and get him to help you, if you're unsure. As for money issues - building yourself is always a lot cheaper than buying pre-made.

You have a pulse and a reasonably functional brain, which is all you need to learn to build a computer. Learning takes no money at all, just a quick Google search. In the end, it's a cheaper solution than buying most any prebuilt PC, except for very low end ones which cost less to mass-produce than the parts could be bought for. The only thing that might be an impediment is the time it may take to read a few instructional walkthroughs on the internet, but if you have enough time for journal posts on TWHL, you have enough time for that.
