Kasperg has now started our second Source competition, Transport Hub. Since it's a bit bigger than usual, you have seven weeks. Now, get started!

I've posted the results of the first Source competition properly now. It closed in September, but I had to wait until there were no competitions running to add it. Kasperg, Rabid and Cpl1nsane will now have nice trophies in their profiles.

Respected development community 3D Buzz have released a series of video tutorials regarding the basics of Source mapping. Certainly a good thing for any of you late to jump on the bandwagon and looking to get started.

Sorry for this bit of unrelated news, but for all the Aussies here, I'm sure you're all incredibly happy, but for those who don't know what's going on, I shall explain.

Australia defeated Uruquay last night thus securing our place in the Fifa World Cup! Australia has not been in the Cup for 31 years, so this is an extremly big deal for our country.

Congratulations to the Socceroos!

The results for competition seventeen, The Test Chamber, have been posted. The next competition will be here in the next few weeks... it may be the first proper official Source one, too.

Congratulations to Captain P, Daubster and MuzzleFlash, who are all now Map Vault moderators. They'll be tidying things up a little: moving things into the right categories, fixing mod icons, and moderating comments. Well done guys, and thanks to everyone who also offered.

I've finally fixed the map editing bug whereby the "mod" field reset to "HL" every time one edited the details.

If you find any more bugs, please, let me know!

Would you like to be a Map Vault moderator? Have a look here. Applicants should be responsible and helpful.

Competition sixteen has now closed and is being judged by MuzzleFlash and I.

I've just published BrattyLord's ambient_generic tutorial for HL, and BJ's Animating Models for Source.

There's only a week left of the present competition. You'd better start wrapping up your entries (even if you have to leave bits out)!

I'm zooming through this lot now. Now up is alexb911's tutorial on custom sounds. I've only got manuscript sitting around now, which I should have done, well, in the next few days. I'm also expecting at least one tutorial on displacement techniques for Source to be up by the end of my holiday (the 31st).

Want to get in on the action? Write a tutorial yourself: you get a little flash title under your avatar and a shiny red award.

I have finally marked up and released two new HL tutorials: Splash Screens for Steam by ChickenFist and trigger_changetarget by Elon Yariv.

There are two more tutorials still waiting to be marked up, including, finally, one on custom sounds.

I've also added an option in your profiles to extend the ShoutBOX, onliners list, etc.; for those of you with big screens. Like me.

Following team restructuring, the production of our third alpha build - 0.0.3, and the fact that we wish to speed up development, the Black Mesa: Source team is looking for one final level designer applicant, in addition to the previous applicant positions of character modeller and skinners. Black Mesa: Source is an ambitious modification which aims to recreate the Half-Life 1 experience in the Source engine, utilizing the new capabilities it offers us. Level designer applicants must have, at the bare minimum, one year of experience with the Valve Hammer Editor and either the Half-Life or Source engines, in addition to a knowledge of lighting, entity placement and setups and all other aspects of production which are generally covered by the level designer. Skills with textures, prop models, or any other areas of development are a big plus, as well as those who are experienced with Half-Life 1 settings or lab environments.

All level designer applicants must attach either a link to a portfolio or provide example work - All applications without example work will be rejected. Level Designer applicants should send their applications to RabidMonkey at rabidmonkey777@gmail.com. For more information about Black Mesa: Source, a highly anticipated Half-Life 2 modification, feel free to visit our website, or stop by our IRC channel.

We look forward to seeing your name on the applicant list!

Sincerely,
RabidMonkey and the Black Mesa Source team.
