in Internet Running Out of Addresses, Warns Post #256091
The world is about to run out of the Internet addresses that allow computers to identify each other and communicate, the man who co-developed the system has told The Times. Vint Cerf, often called the "father of the Internet" and one of the world's leading computer-networking scientists, said that businesses and consumers needed to act now to switch to the next generation of Internet addresses. Unless preparations were made now, he said, some computers might not be able to go online and the connectivity of the Internet might be damaged.

Cerf said that Internet service providers in particular needed to prepare, and that time was running out for a smooth transition. Every computer and online device is assigned a unique Internet Protocol address ? Windows users can look up theirs by opening a command-prompt window and typing "ipconfig" ? but the pool of unallocated numbers is about to dry up. "This is like the Internet running out of telephone numbers and with no new numbers, you can't have more subscribers," he said.

Windows 7 introduction plus some nostalgia back down history lane.
Wow,....That was a real history lane treat, nice find satchmo. Man, did you get the part about the source code size difference between Vista and Windows 7? Vista's is like 4 Gigs and Windows 7's is only 25 MB!!! Holy cow, that's a huge strip down from one OS to it's future upgrade!

If Windows 7 is going to be that lean, it should boot up like lightning and run it's built in programs on warp speed, especially on the vastly more powerful future PC's that will be on the market when it finally comes out. Yo satchmo....tell me if I really heard that video right.....

I just downloaded and installed SP1 for Vista on my PC, and to my surprise my computer seems to be a little faster now, and a tad more stable. But still, Vista needs more work on it, it is still far from perfect.

Hey, since we are on the subject of Vista, I am sure some of you know this, Microsoft has already been at work for some time now on the next version of Windows that will replace Vista, code name "Windows 7" (formerly codenamed Blackcomb and later Vienna). Anyway, there is so much on this for me to put it all here, it's better to just go here for the full details: http://windows7news.com/

I don't think graphics can be based on personal opinion... cause if we go by that I may as well say I think Super Mario Brothers had superior graphics to The Conduit.
The only way this will be settled would be when the actual game is released to the general public. Seeing early web or printed pictures is one thing, playing the finished game first hand on a Wii is another. Only time will tell (and the gaming community).

There is nothing wrong with 360. FPS's may be better on PC, but not all games are. This is the point of a designed game specific console and it's controller...
I never did say there was anything wrong with the Xbox 360, or any other current generation console for that matter. In fact, I do like the Xbox 360, it's one of the very few products from Microsoft that you can say it's good. As for The Conduit's graphics quality, that simply comes down to a matter of one's own personal opinion, besides the game is still in production, therefore not done yet, it would be unfair to compare it to any other finished game.

TBH... I have PS2 games with better graphics by a long shot.
Everybody knows that the PS2's graphics were flawed with the infamous "jaggies", heck, even the Dreamcast had superior graphics.
PC ftw, and fuck 360
Very intelligent comment.
Nothing can replace the versatility of mouse-keyboard combo for FPS games
True. But remember, we are also talking about the "Wii-mote" here, very different than your average game console controller.

interesting how the least powerful is the most popular, I always thought average idiots preferred "awsum grafix" to gameplay. Anyway I am a proud owned of a Wii.
The Wii might not be the most powerfull system, but it can still be made to play and display games with graphics on a next-gen level. Take for example the upcoming Wii game called "The Conduit". This is a sci-fi FPS game slated to come out 1st. quarter of next year. The word on this game is, it will push the Wii's graphical limits to the max, so it should be interesting to see this first hand when it does come out.

A $299 eMachine computer for your mom? If I ever did that to my mother, I would be executed. Anyway, if you can, try getting your computer parts from Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com, because the thing is, Best Buy is somewhat expensive for getting your PC stuff there, not to mention their selection of parts is no where as good as Newegg or Tigerdirect. Now, if you really want to save money and go for maximum deals, I then suggest: http://www.pacificgeek.com/index.asp

By the way satchmo, that was really nice of you giving your PC to your mom, way to go.

Tito, its most likely that that was a weather balloon with dummy's for a drop test. Your bringing it like its evidence. And if you can tame the dangers of space, then no human build weapon is going to shoot down your spaceship. I don't know where people get the arrogance to think that.
Look, the reason on how or why a UFO managed to crashed in the Nevada desert in 1947 does not matter, what matters is one allegedly did. Everybody that's anybody that follows this story from beginning to end knows that the U.S. Air Force story about weather balloon with dummies is complete, utter bullshit. Hell, there's even been a couple of high ranking Air Force officers that have gone on record and with signed testimony saying the weather balloon story is a complete made up story to help deflate the Roswell dilemma. And these two officers were part of the team of "spinners" in charge of coming up with this story. The funny thing is, one of them was found dead with an apparent self inflicting gun shot to the head a few weeks later. The other one went in to hiding and is believed to be in Europe somewhere. That story about the weather balloons and dummies has been discredited time and time again by so many experts and former military people over the years.

Actually, the shooting down of their space ship part might have already happened. I am sure some of you here have heard of the "Roswell incident" of 1947. That's where the military recovered not just the UFO wreckage but also the bodies of 6 aliens and at least one live one. This is perhaps the most famous UFO case of all time.

Most likely a video was taken by the squad car's dash cam or some other type of video recorder like a cell phone's or even a camcorder, but depending on how good of a quality this video might have been, it might have posted a threat to the government's "status quo" on official denial on these matters, and like such, the video was conveniently "misplaced" by the authorities. I guarantee you that those 5 police officers were told if they expect to keep their jobs and their pensions, they would have to forget everything about the incident and deny that it ever took place on future interviews. The government can't afford this kind of public hysteria on this post 9/11 society we live in, The U.S. Department Of Homeland Security will see to it that people stay in the dark about UFO's.

Sony are desperate, because they're failing hard with the PS3. Not even a lame Second Life clone will save them.

I can't see the appeal of these "3D chat" things. Either play a real MMO (where you do things besides talk) or join an IRC channel.
I do agree with you on everything you said about Sony. Now, according to what Sony said on the last E3, Home represents that one big "killer app" that the PS3 needs to help push it pass Microsoft's Xbox360 and it's hyper popular Xbox Live network. This is coming from Sony themselves, not me.

On a related note, I found this short video on YouTube showcasing 50 of the top 3D chat sites out there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CijdlYOSPc
On that video, it is claimed that there are about 300,000,000 registered 3D chat users world wide!

What the hell? My respect for Sony was demolished by reading this. Come on! You are smarter than this!
Well, perhaps Sony is having second thoughts about Home, after all, how many times has Home been delayed now? If I was in charge of Sony, I would order a rebuild of Home, it will still be a 3D chat platform, but it will also have a built in first person shooter game engine. This way, when you are done chatting, you can go to some other "FPS area" and settle the score with a good'ole fashion fragfest. Afterwards, you can go back to chatting to taunt your victims.

Well, it's official then, apparently this idea on any website being turned in to 3D is not exactly getting a warm reception here at TWHL, oh well. This is pretty much like everything else in life, you either like it or you don't, simple as that. For the record, Exit Reality's membership growth has taken of like a rocket, it's already bigger than Google's Lively, according to their news board. I wonder if some day it will ever reach Second Life's massive million plus membership.

Like some of you might already know, there is currently a resurgence of on the internet involving these 3D chat websites similar to Second Life. Just to name a few, there's Google Lively, Activeworlds, Outerworlds, Cybertown, 3DXplorer and a whole bunch more, and of course including my very own VirtualHL.info Now, one of the very latest 3D chat platform websites to recently debut is called "Exit Reality" (www.exitreality.com). But unlike all the other ones, this one has a very unique feature where any regular 2D website, and I really mean any website, can be turned in to a full blown 3D website, with multi-user chat with 3D avatars to boot!!! Of course, you would need to download and install a little browser plug-in so you can participate in the Exit Reality 3D network. A word of warning: Exit Reality is still in Beta, so there's bound to still be a few bugs in the system, but nothing big. So as to give you guys here at TWHL an idea on what a 2D website will look like turned 3D, I went ahead and tested TWHL to see what we would get, and here it is:

First, I input TWHL's full URL on to Exit Reality's 3D form:

Theres models you have to PAY for? That is the most stupid thing ive ever heard. Better to learn and make them yourself.
As stupid as it might sound, buying and selling 3d models is actually a very big, lucrative business online. In fact, I myself sold a collection of 5 custom made, animated VRML avatars burned on a cd-rom on eBay about 3 years ago, for $24.95 including shipping. To further make my point and prove to you that selling 3d models is not really out of the ordinary, here is a tiny list of some commercial 3d model retailers:

Alright noob, here it is: In a nut shell, Cinema 2.0 is just simply a graphics chip similar to ones found on game consoles, but in this case, Cinema 2.0 is far, far more powerful and advance than anything else in the market. It is made by AMD, which normally only do PC processors, like for example the Athlon 64. This Cinema 2.0 chip will be used to power the newest PC graphics cards (ATI Radeon HD 4800 series), and perhaps maybe game consoles in the future (Xbox720 or PS4?).

I supposed if some time in the near future, Half Life 3 were to be released supporting Cinema 2.0, two bad things would happen: First, your PC rig would most likely will have to be an expensive machine equipped to the max with the latest of everything, which could cost somewhere between $2,500 and $3,500 or more, just to play the game with all effects turned on. Second, for all the map makers out there, a whole new map editor would have to be invented, supporting Cinema 2.0. Yep, this sure sounds like the future to me. But I do agree with most of you that's against this, the PC gaming world might not be ready for this just yet.

In the video game world, either it be PC gaming or game consoles, there always comes that special moment where everything changes, and in this case, it comes from the world's 2nd largest chip maker, AMD. After reading and seeing with my own eyes on where the next generation gaming is headed with AMD's new graphics engine, called "Cinema 2.0" I believe this is the future that all gamers are clamoring for.
