It's just as easy as mapping really, chow, you just have to ignore most of the options in most modelling programs, wheras all of Hammer's stuff's HL-oriented.

I know, that's why I said it. Educating you. I often do it to people whose first language isn't English on the grounds that I appreciate it when people do the same for me when I'm learning/using other languages.

Because they're designed to stress your hardware as much as possible. I doubt it'd run at a playable framerate in-game where it ran there (sound, A.I., etc. is pretty straining).

Try moving the fence further from the wall. This may be caused by poor filtering ? turn on antriscopic filtering and see if that helps.

Plus, if the cubes are larger than 240^3, they'll have four polygons per face, making 24 polygons per cube.

Maybe because you've increased the viewable distance? :|

Bear in mind that, by my reckoning, a small cube will increase the wpoly count by twelve. You put in twenty computers, with a keyboard, mouse, monitor and base unit ? all just cubes ? and you've got 960 extra polygons there.

It's uploaded, don't worry. Due to some slight oversight on atom's part peoples' browsers (even the best) are not noted that the image has changed, so you have to refresh yourself (typically F5).

I'd say modelling the windows would be a good idea, too. I'm a pretty experienced HL mapper who has never modelled, but I'm learning now for HL?. It's kinda a requirement really; you can't have proper physics objects, for example, which aren't models.
