Awesome. I've never play tested these outdated maps of mine with others. And believe it or not i'm currently working on a lost_tech 2. Hope i'll be off during the tournament!

Lol dude really? hahaha.

Next competition will have guidlines a mile long.

As I did begin to enter, there weren't enough "instructions" because i'd want to add something to my plans but first ask if it was ok and then wait for the response waisting time. I guess it's because of the competition's restrictive stipulations.

Good argument, and good points back there hotdog. Nice map noSICK! Concept shmoncept. And i'm an aspiring architect...

art/ "Concept". You can choose to have one or not... In the end it's what is created that matters. No matter how you got there. Though "how you got there" ""could"" be part of it if you choose so.

At the same time I agree with Drago's theory that concept and reason adds a deaper level. It does/ can, but in this case apparently it wasn't necessary to get what he has to show. Learn from the creator and don't be blissful to reason. One's who create good work seem to have a compilation of deaper meaning and inspiration that might not come off so clearly as to the driving force. What inspires you?

For me memorie's, emotions and experiences are a major driving factor in everything I create.

Wish I had time to enter this one. Maybe i'll have more time for the next one. Perhaps over summer break? Great job everyone and you esp Rim. My mouth is watering.

I think you "skalls" can pull yours together and perhaps with more detail it could be really nice. I'd recomend against that sky though, perhaps the morning or night one. It might even be cool to darken the map down along with the sky and add some interesting ambient lights, hums, buzzes, zaps and sparks.

in Question about making safety rails Post #300551
Are you sure that's necessary?

Edit: Just tested making the entire thing a func_wall and func_illusionary and didn't have this problem in openGL but did in software mode.

Potatis was correct. Change your graphics to openGl, direct 3d seemed to work too.

Though iv'e heard that combining seperate entities can cause issues it becomes necessary in maps with many entities because goldsource can't handle that many and if you have too many the game begins to not render weapons, items, sprites and entities visible.

A good example is my "myles_room" map. There are so many entities that I had to combine almost all of the brush based one's and yet when many players are in the map entities begin to become invisible.

Oh ok. And yea daubster I think I remember people doing that on train. All I was getting at Kraken was that bunnyhopping isn't what it used to be. And was wondering where you can do it the old way, but that's been answered. And its ashame, the edgebug was so cool. It was only on the jumpbug that they mentioned it being near impossible, but I guess it pertains to both.

Can you do edgebug? I was trying on bounce. But in single player mode, perhaps it has to be in a server?

Yea these "limiting" competitions just aren't what they seemed to be with gold. You really need tons of custom content to spruce up the engine.

Not saying it can't be done though. That interior is looking great skals!

Forgot to mention i'm no longer entering. Got a good idea from this competition that I will try to do when I have more time though.

I was going to do a map where aliens were infiltrating our moon and colonizing it. It was called tcfc which meant too close for comfort. The textures weren't really working out for the theme very well either, I was using the glass textures for the moon terrain but it looked too smooth. And the sand just looked out of place. Also the space sky's stars are really bad.

Perhaps when I do this idea without limitations it will be easier to pull together.

Good luck everyone.

You can still bunny hop in 1.6? Awesome. Unfotrunately for some reason sometimes counterstrike and condition zero don't work on my laptop.

I'll have to check out the mod too, thanks Dragos!

Edit: From the vid it seems bunnyhopping in counterstrike is somewhat restricted though.

Double Edit: Ok. No. You cannot bunny hop in cs 1.6, it's completely restricted. Sure you can "think" you are. But I meant like it used to be. Not struggle hopping.

Installing team fortress and then searching for mod.

So I thought valve only removed bunny hopping in counterstrike by making you get tired after jumping but after checking out a forum I found that it's removed from all new versions of hl.

Does anyone know any settings or way I can bunny hop besides joining a server that enables it.

Someone said just get the disc version but if I installed it I wonder if it would even work. Any ideas?

I would like to bunny hop in single player hl. Of course online would be nice too, i'll look for servers.

My idea involves a ridicuolous amount of vertex manipulation. What the hell am I thinking... :pwned:

Here's a miniscule hint. The name is tcfc. It was an old style for me to come up with the name so early.

Such a great idea is floating around in my head. But i've yet to begin because I have a cliffside observatory due monday, have to fix the brakes on my car, am trying to build a tree deck before the cold season and have other classes to pass along with work.

Well I have mapped my observatory and used some of the textures from the competition. It's a really nice map but the screen shots show the imperfections like blockish curves. I'm actually using screenshots edited through photoshop as part of a presentation of my project in school. Sadly it is time for me to begin focusing more on a highly graphical rendering program like 3ds max or something. I will never quit mapping with gold though unless it is replaced by a program that does the same and more. Well perhaps i'll begin poking more at source while i'm at it.

I want so badly to give hints to my idea but i'm not even sure i'll have time to do it. Sigh... :heartbreak:

Ambience is a strong dimension to a map. Look at endless rain from scientist hunt. It wouldn't be the same without it. This comp is unfair all around. This competition favors source mappers strongly. It's common sense, they have more to use at their dissposal along with better graphics. We can get gold to compare to source by using tons of custom content but without it, gold is a joke unless you stick to limited themes. For example, the skies all suck majorly unless you use a xen or morning one.

Oh well, atleast ther'es a competition at all. Good job getting it going so quickly. Just thought i'd mention the truth though. :)

I'm really busy in school right now and want to build a tree deck for the fall weather so I may not have time for this one. It's hard to grasp this fact.

Maybe I can just use the textures to render my current architecture project at school and submit it as my entry...

in Competition 31 Post #299549
Uh, pretty sure if you do that you will be eliminated. Like render mode "color" That would give you like a million new colors/ textures to use. You "clearly" cannot do this. Just only use the textures given. Don't try to figure a way around it.

Also, i've noticed that dark water textures actually tend to look better than light ones when rendered with fx ammount set pretty low.
