thanks ill try those coding software out tommorow. I'm just eager to get this mod moving for its first release but not sure if i should wait for HL2. because most of the stuff i need to do now is modelling and im not sure its worth getting all that modelling stuff when HL2 has a easy as hell modelling system.

Oh and I'd preferably like the downloadable stuff because thats that much less $. I've got Windows ME so that 1 tutorial on wavelength for hud changes won't work. Otherwise, free computer space is doing good.

I just want to know what the best software is for mod making. I know I'm going to need a C++ compiler/decompiler of sort. All I have is Dev-C++ which seems to be able to run C++ code through a prompt. And I'm also looking at a Microsoft Visual C++.NET Standard Edition 2003 For PC which is about in my price range. And I'm not going to bother getting any modelling software until HL2 comes out because I've already seen some downloadable very easy to use software. And I think I've got everything else. I want to be able to make anything that is capable of doing in a mod so I want to have the right tools in that case. Thanks for input.

I'm sure once HL2 comes out, you could convert this. And if possible, add vehicles (though i'm not sure to what extent valve went into extras as that, but i'm sure its possible). Halo fan here too. Probably my fav map for LAN parties. :)

Thanks, as long as I get some responses from my progress, I'll be adding more features. I'll admit though, this was from freewebs.com so making it was about as easy as typing 'easy' on Notepad. I'll put some time into though. Hope this becomes more and more popular as it progresses. Thnx.

Steam just recently said that I was not on the steam network after i logged out. Big deal. Ill just log back on and, wait, i can't. No option to do so. I go to steampowered.com and find absolutely no forums, support or FAQs on connecting to the steam network. And if this problem isn't fixed, I'll go with you guys and say "F*** steam and their mom."

Thanks. I tried got rid of every complex clipping I've done and made the skybox into a flat sheet over the top. I don't see how I coul be going over the limit of polys or anything over of that matter. All of my objects are quite basic and in small numbers compared to other TFC maps. As I draw nearer to finishing my TFC map, I'm running into a bit of a problem. Regarding water levels, what is the ideal way to appoach making water. It is about as simple as 2forts water entrance and I just need to know how to set it up. I did individual blocks then set them to func_water, but when I go into the water, you can see where the next block of water starts. So does anyone know if Im suppose to make one big block of water and put that on the map. And if so, would I have to surround the water out in the void by walls. And one that has really been bugging me is, Short # Surfaces. When actually playing the map, I experience a couple of moments when the water or the sky disappears and a message says Short 16 Surfaces. It says that message usually when Im farther away. And no, this isn't a huge map that my visible distance would interfere with the appearance. This map is about the size of Well. Any help is appreciated. This is my first TFC map and all is going great otherwise. I'd like to finish this map and get some people playing. Thanks in advance.

Would there be any chance that I could find a bot for just single player that was a bit smarted than the ones already on it or would I have to code it myself. And how hard might that be. Just wanted help because me and a couple of friend were thinking about doing a small mod or some testing of AI and stuff. Thanks in advance.

in Half-Life is out of date??? Post #47467
When I try playing Counterstrike, TFC, Half-Life I get the same message saying I have an 'out-of-date version' of Half-Life. Then it goes through the procedure to check the internet for updates. Once done checking, it says there are no newer versions of the game. I'm running on 1.1.1.0 right now and use Steam. Can anyone help? I'm trying to make a TFC map which is a couple of days away from finishing. I just need to get this working. Thanks.
