in Oldest playable game? Post #167231
Seeing as i am taking quite a beating in the Emo thread i thought id start a freindlier one. This is taken from another forum i often visit and thought you people may appreciate it.

What is the oldest game that you still play??

Mine is Covert Action, a cracking spy game that you can now download for free if you google it. Amazing game that involves bugging cars, houses, cracking messages, breaking and entering and bringing down huge terrorist organisations.

I said I didn't wanna see that 'learning' bullshit..
I don't want my map to be released if I lose, it's just a matter of pride I have..
Thats silly, you could make an amazing map but it might not win because the judge may have a strange taste in maps, however the rest of us my really enjoy it!

As long as you know youve made a good map you should have pride in that.

You call me a ignorant fuck and then say exactly thing that im saying! Its not the genuine people i have a problem with its the fake people who are not what they are pretending to be!

Id say you were like me, not a fashion-victim but someone who wears clothes to be comfortable not fashionable and i wouldnt say you were an outcast because of it!! I hate shopping, i walk into a shop, say "yeah that'll fit" and then try it on at home!!

The difference is that ive read what many of you have written since i joined and i know you, i have respect for you and what you have to say. However, im sure everyone here has at some point made a snap judgement on someone they have never met purely on how they look. Thats because you dont know them and dont respect them.

If i see someone like Dwain Dibbly walking down the road then i am going to think hes some sort of train spotting geek. We all would. Its a natural reaction to something that is different from "OUR NORMAL" lives.

Sorry if this is a repost!

Gripe Sheet
After every flight, Quantas pilots fill out a form called a "gripe sheet,"
which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics
correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots
review the gripe sheets before the next flight.

Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Quantas'
pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S)
by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline
that has never had an accident.

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on order.

P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute
descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what they're for.

P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.

P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.

P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget
pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

For your first bit: who cares, its their life for crying out loud. As for the second bit: who cares??!
Just becuase you dont care doesnt mean that other people shouldnt!

As for the second bit, i believe that this backs up my earlier comment about them dressing like corpses and i would like some clarification on whether im right or not!

At the end of the day we are all entitled to our opinions, i dont critise other peoples for theirs and they shouldnt for mine!

(SairBous)Do you? I don't think so
I think i can safely say that i know more goths that you. My whole point was that judging anyone for their looks is stupid. I can't understand why somebody would oppose that, i guess you're just dumb then.
I am not dumb mate, i think anyone that doesnt judge on looks IS dumb! How someone dresses and looks represent their personality and how they want the world to see them, however, im sure you agree with this:

Judging someone purely on their looks is stupid!

Im sure if you went to buy a car you would consider both looks and what was inside before you bought it wouldnt you? Yes! Thats because what matters is the overall package.

Yes i do know many goths (in fact both my brother and his g/f are) and all of them are nice people, however ive also met several who dress like goths because their friends do (these are the people i have a problem with). Goth/Emo is a lifestyle choice, one that i have no problem with aslong as its really who they are. My brother has never been happier than he is now, and im so happy for him after all the trouble we've had as kids he deserves it.

I dislike anyone that hides behind a mask, figure out who you are and enjoy it.

Quick question: Why do some goths make their faces white and eyes/lips black??

Im not being sarcastic here but ive never asked anyone of my friends this but i always assumed it was down to a fascination with death and mimmicking a corpse! Please correct me if im wrong!

EDIT: Urb, im sure me and SariBous can continue along a friendly discussion without falling out! :D

I myself have many friends that are considered goth (they themselves don't give a shit about labels) and I have never seen one of them "dress as a corpse" as you say. Dumbest comment I've ever heard
Do you know all goths?? No you ***** well dont!!

As i have already said, i have many friends all of whom are different. I myself am interested in death and what lies beyond. However, my comment was based on all these pathetic 14-16 year olds that we get hanging around the local shopping centres. Many of whom do dress like corpses!! In no way was my comment based on your friends as ive never met them.

Surely your last comment should be:

[quote]Yes, goth has strong influences from 18th clothing[/quote}

Is that meant to say 18th CENTURY clothing??

Bottom line: I encourage people to figure out who they are, if being different (as you are from me) is who you truely are and thats what makes you happy then great. My problem lies in these idiots who are sheep and just follow the crowd no matter what the crowd is doing, i say be different, but be different to figure who you are not because "Its COOL!"

no-one is really sure yet!

You do not play directly against other people as you would in HL or CS but you can content (planets/species/civilisations) from other players is downloaded onto your PC so that you can interact with them. The computer carries on playing as the other civilisation in the way that the original person did.

Very clever but im expecting it to be very heavy on GFX and CPU!

I love the goth saying:

I dont do this for the attention, just to be different!

WTF!!

If you didnt want attention why in the hell you you make yourself look like a corpse!!

ive many friends who are bikers or just covered in tattoos, most people take one look at them and think that they are nothing but trouble. And they do look that way, but you could walk up to any of them and start a conversation, they are truely nice guys and gals. However, these silly little teenage people do my nut in! I understand its hard when your that age, trying to figure out who you are

But to dress like a corpse!! WHY????

in Spray painted controllers. Post #166962
do a search for painting plastics in general, not specifically the controller.

I would suggest spray paint from a Car shop thats made for plastics ie bumpers. This is designed to die the plastic the colour of the paint as well as cover it. There are several informative websites on painting car plastics, it should be exactly the same.

Just make sure that you take the controller apart before spraying :D

Oh, just a quick thought, get down to your local warhammer store. Warhammer models are plastic so the primer, paints and varnish from them should work a treat. You may have to get some really fine wet and dry sandpaper and give the plastic a quick rub down first. You will also want to make sure its clean before spraying :D

in Graphics or Performance, Your thoughts! Post #163230
Its simply really,

If a game has amazing graphics but as a result has poor performance its unplayable, if a game has great performance but poor graphics it is still playable.

Performance is a building block for games, graphics is an added extra.

Im not saying graphics are not important because they are, but only one of them makes the game unplayable without the other!

be prepared to look into all of the advice here! Dont just say, "This is what i want!" because there are people out there that know more about it, take their advice and look into it.

If you plan on project managing this you will have to realise you dont know best, only what you want.

You need an engine that is easy to code and model for. No point in getting an engine that then needs another $2000 worth of software to use.

EDIT: I always had a great idea for a game: either a MMORPG/FPS or just a BF2 style game crossed with something like escape from LA. A city has been turned into a huge prison, there a 3 factions and you have to fight for land and resources. A bit like planetside but a lot better :D

You can always make you game using the lower/cheaper options and then when its starts making money start developing a newer version with the best graphics etc.

I am more than willing to test anything you come up with, im currently learning Java and then C++ but i doubt id be of any use with it. I am very good at developing ideas, problem solving and research.

in Hammer with steam problem! Post #158188
OK all ive run into a bit of a problem.

I purchased HL1 Anthology and CS1 Anthology. I installed them onto my PC but i couldnt choose where to put them as they automatically installed into C:Program FilesSteam.

I was trying to set Hammer up yesterday but ran into some difficulty as i had no halflife folder.

It goes
Program FilesSteamSteamApps*steam login*

In this folder ive got files for:

condition zero
halflife blue shift
rag doll kungfu demo
team fortress classic

Ive figured out that you need to play a game once before it creates an actual game folder.

Ive managed to set it up as best i can but hit a major problem when i came to adding .WAD files to it. I cant find any at all, ive even used XP Search but it found nothing.

Does anyone have any advice or links to sites that will be able to help me get this setup??

If i can get it working properly i will get a little guide written up for other members!

Thanks,

MNuTz

Basically a console is a PC for none PC people, in other words, Its a PC that someone with absolutely no knowledge of PCs can use without the risk of messing it up.

To me, any serious gamer uses a PC. Consoles are good for sports, driving and fighting games due to the controllers, but now that controllers for the PC are just as advanced you can easily play the above genres on a PC with no problems.

Ive a PS2 Slim that i take if we go away anywhere, its small light and ideal for such things. Plus theres the annoying problem of games. Destroy All Humans for instance is one of the funniest games ive ever played, but they didnt release it on the PC so im glad i had my PS2.

Swings and Roundabouts as to the pros and cons of both systems. PC's will always be the best and the worst of the gaming world with consoles just sitting in the average section :D

Actually, the only reason that Halo on the PC is so bad is beacuse its a conversion of a crappy console game! Had it been developed for the PC first as it was originally intended then it would of been a great game.

However, the limitations of the console meant that the development team seemed to think it was ok to make all the underground sections the same instead of making variations. I was never sure whether or not i had moved on or whether i was in the same bunker doing the same thing!

Granted the game wasnt all bad, i enjoyed playing it but it was not as good as it could of been!

People just need to accept that some people are not as good at languages as them.

I am useless at languages, i read constantly but hated learning English. I am always checking my spelling in MS Word just to make sure its right but when it comes to grammar i just get lost. I am by no means thick or stupid, my skills are elsewhere, maths, science and anything that involves logic and problem solving.

Sometimes, its a case of trying to type too fast, i get the right letters in the wrong places.

So what if people make a few mistakes? Just accept the fact the languages are not everyone's strong point and move on.
