In short: less emphasis on brushes/brushwork, more emphasis on model props and displacements.
Lighting is also much, much more complex.
Triggers work the same way--fundamentally--except in Source any entity can be a trigger.

This is called post apocalyptic, not Fallout.
As far as I'm concerned, Stalker presented a barren wasteland much better than Fallout. The original Mad Max also did a great job.

But why would such a map have to have a vault?

I have to agree that The Ship was a jolly good time back in the day, though.

I remember when Archie was a brand new member.
"5 ways to die"
I also remember the "Proudly Liberal" avatar thing that happened once too
Vassy. Proudly British.

Andy. No avatar. Except he ruined his no-avatar streak with that scroll crap.
Not to be confused with Ant, formerly known as Anthony--Atom's right hand man (unless I've misunderstood this for the past 8 years).

Jaardsi's horror mod.

Bonus points to anyone here who was active when Atom (the original Atom) was still sitting on the throne. I wasn't.

Edit: Searching the archives to see if I can't retrieve my first avatar. Couldn't find it.
Couldn't find Urby's original avatar, either. But I remember it. A soup miner never forgets.

Edit: There were also the two TWHL "civil wars" on religious beliefs and Americans vs. the British and Australians.

I've got a truckload of these memories. Speaking of truckload, MASSIVE TRUCK OF FAIL.

If Hammer is crashing when you use a model on a cycler_sprite, there's something up with your FGD. I've had that problem before, and I'm guessing you're using a vanilla Half Life FGD, am I right?
You can either manually edit it or use a different, probably older HL FGD. Unfortunately I don't have one readily available for you, so you might have to do some searching.

1. Create a cycler_sprite, and set the sprite path to your ghost model. Ingame it will default to the first animation in the model's animation set (which should be your "idle"). Targeting your cycler_sprite will cause the model to change animations to the next one in the set (which should be your "drop").

2. Create a trigger_once that your player will pass through. Target your cycler_sprite with the trigger_once.

3. Create a trigger_relay. Give it a name and set "kill target" to your cycler_sprite.

4. Create a second trigger_relay, and give it the same name as your cycler_sprite. Set its target to the trigger_relay you made in step 3. Set "delay before trigger" to however many seconds you want the ghost to stick around before disappearing.

What you've just done: made a model that will sit idle until targeted by an invisible wall. Upon passing through the trigger, the ghost will animate and then disappear a few seconds later. There's numerous ways to do this, but I think this is probably the simplest and most efficient.

I used to be a big VG Cats fan. "How I mine for fish?"
Then "soup" is just a funny word in general. Everybody knows that, silly.

Soup hit up VG Cats with some chlorophyll and made sweet, sweet rape with the phrase "how I mine for fish?" VG Cats doesn't believe in abortion, and my username was born 9 months later. Soup is still paying child support.

I've become quite attached to this obnoxious screen name.

I'm sorry, I have to nitpick.

I cannot, cannot get over how awful the weapon animations are. For all the work that went into everything else, the weapons feel completely half assed.
I was also very disappointed that we don't get to see that glimpse of Xen at the beginning of the game. Kind of important.

We've been in an age of film reboots for years.
I see it more as directors wanting to try their own version of the same film as opposed to writers not having any new ideas.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with that, because there's still such a plethora of totally new films coming out alongside the remakes. What we really end up with is multiple versions of the same film that suit different tastes. I'm all for that.

My take on Batman 3: The Dark Knight 2, The Dark Knight Rises:

I didn't expect it to be nearly as good as The second film, but I was still sort of let down. It was wildly entertaining, but it was not special. It was, as far as I'm concerned, just another action flick.

Spoiler alert
Three problems that stood out among many were:
1. Batman was nobody special. He didn't even save anyone--his flying car did. Anybody with the keys to that thing could have taken that role. Batman did not outsmart or outfight anyone.
2. The use of Hollywood clichés was mindblowing. I thought Mr. Nolan was more clever than this. I could have done without the bullshit "45-minutes-to-save-Gotham" ordeal, among other suspense gimmicks.
3. Worst. Twist. Ever. That "twist" didn't need to be included in the first place. I don't even see why Bane couldn't have been the mastermind that we were led to believe.
He legitimately beat Batman.
I'm extremely disappointed that this film fell back on the old "brawny-leader-turns-out-to-be-a-puppet" bullshit.

You can see anything through sky brushes that VIS can see.
It's no different than looking around a corner using null brushes. This is actually how wall hacks work.
Check this example map out.

Anyway, you'll need to be more specific. Are you just seeing around a corner or are you actually seeing an entirely closed off section of the map through the sky?

I've been playing Aion on and off for the past couple of months as an Elyos assassin.
You know... Aion--that game wherein everyone has wings.
I'm absolutely not an MMO connoisseur, but it's has held my attention quite well.

The game itself is very much a grind fest. The game's world, however, is tear-inducingly gorgeous and massive. I'm sure this isn't exclusive to Aion, but there's also a few missions that throw you right into the heart of the enemy faction territory... all by yourself. The first time that happened, I just shat my pants with terror and giggled like a schoolgirl.

Ha, ATD. I saw you online for that game.
where as in HoN and DotA if a hero is picked the other team can't get it. Drafting teams is a real art and is one of if not the most important part of the competitive scene.
There's two modes in LoL. Blind pick let's you pick anyone who hasn't already been picked by your team, but you can't see who the enemy team is picking. LoL also has draft pick, though, and ranked games are draft pick only.

Edit: Just came from a 19/4/11 game as Shaco and followed it up with a 1/5/2 Skarner game. That's enough LoL for tonight.

in How do you TF2? Post #307801
I loved TF2 until I took two breaks from it.
Both times, I came back and realized that I had missed so much new content in such a small time frame that the game felt uninviting.

I can only imagine how brutal it is these days to new players.

I mean, the game itself is still fun. It's just annoyingly overwhelming, and you'll always be left out if you're not absolutely dedicated to it.

Spy has always been and probably will always be my favorite. Any archetype that relies on outsmarting the opposition instead of overpowering it draws my attention. That's why I like Shaco in LoL and hunters in L4D. Been that way my whole life.

I decided to go back in time and rewatch The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

It was much, much better the second time.
Like any good drama, the effects of repeated emotional strain were portrayed remarkably well. The measures the creators took to avoid most "time-control-can-solve-everything" plot holes were also very smart.
The ending still seemed very lackluster, though, and the animation was so-so--very fluid, but the shading was meh.
Still a very good watch.

You need to do something about that hole in the cliff. It looks neither natural nor artificial.
If it's supposed to be a natural tunnel, it's way too sharp for the cliff it's sitting in. If it's supposed to be artificial, why is it not a perfect circle with some kind of industrial trim?

Older games will be grossly inaccurate.

I only have 22 hours recorded for CSS, but I know I played CSS and 1.6 pretty religiously a few years ago. I only have 15 recorded hours for 1.6, as well, which is bogus.

I also have 0.2 recorded hours for Episode 2 and zero recorded hours for Episode 1. I've played through Episode 2 two at least 3 times.

TF2 is sitting at 1,705.3 hours, but honestly I think even that is too low.

Just watched Chronicle.

The similarities between Chronicle and Akira were uncanny, but it was good. Actually, it was insanely good. Don't be put off by the Blair Witch/Cloverfield style narration.
Be sure to see this one.

In case the trailers are too vague: three students stumble on a deep hole in the ground, inside which they find a glowing rock. Something happens and they develop telekinetic powers. The film follows their day-to-day life as they dick around with their newfound powers. The more they exercise it, the stronger they become ("like a muscle")--from moving Legos on the floor to learning to flying to... well if you've seen Akira, you can guess where it heads.

Your bmp has to be 256 colors, and Photoshop is probably changing the palette indexes in the conversion process.

I'd just stick to pasting into Wally, honestly.
