Yeah, I think Rowley described it about as accurate as I was feeling. It's not really like a bad map, it's just missing something. It's lacking...blah. I don't know what it is but it's not there.

I guess a good analogy is that it's like cookies without the sugar. It's a demonstration of your abilities, but you forgot one element and it doesn't taste good. Find that special ingredient (I really think you can make it look loads better with proper prop placement and more clutter in terms of pipes, and that bright blue env light would work wonders) and it would be much better.

Those func_ ladders based off brushes are only functioning in CS:S. HL2 uses a different pointbased system. Don't think there's a way of achieving this effect.

You're not using Steam? Insanity!

There's not much you can do. New copies of HL are under a few dollars (USD anyhoo) at most game stores in the used section I find.

No, Blue-Shift is not a mod. It is a seperate game. You need to be running the old, WON-ish version of it, you cannot execute it via Steam nor HL.

There is a reason they don't release it via Steam...

I'd continue =]

While there is another mod out there, I doubt there's much competition/reason someone would pick one over the other. It's not like they can put a CaD out there for using the same setting. They're each about their own different things, just in the same setting. And then there's the Ravenholm environment in HL2.

Welcome, good sir! Always good to see new active faces in the forum, especially Source-based ones. ;P

[unrelated rant]

There's reliance on props, m0p, but it doesn't mean you have to infest your maps with them. Custom ones are good (working on a team with modellers and knowing them well helps ;] ) but standard things like garbage helps a map which might already be good in terms of architecture and lighting.

Also, HL2 mapping is in no way easier. You can't just make a "good" map any easier than HL2. You need to have a good eye, and a knowledge of the toolset and engine. It's just as hard as HL1, the quality levels are different. Quit hating the new engine. This is akin to saying that HL2 is the worst game ever because your computer cannot run it.

[/unrelated rant]

That's not a relevant error. Reload the map and the shiny issues should be gone.

It dulls down the color because you're using a texture which is somewhat reflective and so its not bright anymore since its using a better reflection than just the skybox which the default is.
