Oh? I haven't looked into Starbound for a while. It looked like Terraria which I played for about an hour... Didn't know it included space battles, factions and customisable ships.

Had they not lied about pretty much all of the awesome stuff they mentioned, I would have certainly given it a look. As it stands, it looks like a generic survival/crafting game with early 2000 graphics.

A shame really. Maybe one day we will get a game that can deliver the experience that they hyped.

Battlefield 1 Open Beta tonight. Let's see if EA have made a bollocks up of this series as well. Yaaay!

In other news, Nuka World seems fun so far. Only played an hours worth of it yesterday. I mean... I played three hours of fallout but I kept getting bloody sidetracked on the way to the station. God dammit Bethesda!

I loved me some Sims 2 back in the day. Having loving the original, the leap from isometric faux 3D into full blown actual 3D was awesome. It was nice to have a little more customisation when actually making your sim as well, rather than the handful of prefab heads / bodies.

But yeah, downhill after that. Sims 3 had awesome customisation but bare minimum content (before all the paid expansion packs of course!) and Sims 4 managed to have even less content while backtracking with the gameplay aspects.

The reference.smd that the .qc file is looking for will be the mesh for the model. When you say you 'made' the reference.smd, do you mean you renamed one of the existing .smd files? If you made a blank file and called it reference.smd, that's not going to work. :P

@Urby: I'm curious to see it if you happen to know what that map is.
Sadly, the name is long last in my mind. We're talking back in the late 90s.

I know that it was set in a hospital type building, although it didn't have much detail. In the single player version, you'd spawn next to an idling Apache, and you'd be directed by shutters in the corridors. Pretty clever.

You can clearly see that it is actually a rocket-propelled robot that's a lot like the Iron Giant, but not nearly as friendly. The double doors behind you swing open as the old bearded wizard floats out on his cloud.

"Freeze! How dare you walk away from a grand wizard when," he stops and squints his eyes, focusing on the incoming bot "What the devil is that?"

His answer comes when the robot closed the distance at astonishing speed, whizzing past you and Kevin in a dark grey blur and slamming into and subsequently obliterating the levitating old man. It smashes into the wall, passing right through and demolishing the wizards chamber inside. A few minutes later, its head peeks back out through the massive hole.

"Afternoon," he says.

"Hey Nige," mews Kevin, waving a tiny paw.

"You summoned me?" asked Nigel, wiping wizard blood off his eye lamps.

"Yup," said Kevin, "We need to get to Mount Priapism, ASAP"

"We?" he pondered, looking you up and down, "Is this thing yours?"

"Yeah," Kevin said, rolling his eyes, "I picked him up earlier."

"Hey, wait a second," you start.

"What the Hell is going on with his trousers?" Nigel pointed a massive mechanical finger towards your crotch."

"Skittles," Keven confirmed.

"Ah," Nigel knowingly nodded his enormous head. "Well, I'll give you a ride Kev, but your friend is either going to have to lose the Skittles or walk to the mountain himself."

"I'm one step ahead of you," said Kevin proudly. He turns to you. "You're going to have to [blank]"

Behind the forest, an enormous mountain thrusts into the sky, it's frosty peak piercing into the clouds. It's a long way off, but you can just about make out an anthropomorphically actualised artichoke, at least twenty metres tall and seemingly terribly upset, about half way up.

"Oh, it's Terrance" says Kevin, producing a tiny pocket watch from somewhere on his person... well, his kitten I guess, "That's convenient, he's my two o'clock. We'd better get over there quick."

"Wait, what?" you ask, gazing out over the landscape at the sentient, sobbing thisle, "That's miles away."

"Indeed it is," Kevin confirms, rolling a blade of grass between his teeny tiny paws. He raises it to his lips and blows, producing the deafening sound of a klaxon, "We'd better take Nigel to save time."

"Who is Nigel?" you ask. Suddenly, you become very much aware that the ground is rumbling. You notice something burst through the treeline in the distance, kicking up mud and dust and travelling straight for you at immense speed. It dips below the horizon, before appearing again coming over the hills. You can clearly see that it is actually a [blank]-propelled [blank]

(Have fun ;) )

If I recall, the decision was to do this in full view of an APC... ANYWAY

Two blenders drop from the ceiling and slam into the ground, shattering the tiles as they land and blocking your path to the door. Well, not really blocking. They're just blenders.

You step over the blenders and push on one of the large doors, more brilliant, white light streaming into the room as it opens. Your vision clears and you step outside.

"Bugger it," mutters the wizard, frowning at the blenders, "Wrong spell."
You find yourself outside, breathing in the fresh air for the first time in what feels like four years... Looking ahead, you see nothing but green, rolling hills extending way into the distance. Eventually, they vanish into the dark treeline of a far off forest. Behind the forest, an enormous mountain thrusts into the sky, it's frosty peak piercing into the clouds. It's a long way off, but you can just about make out a [blank] about half way up.

(It's miles away, so think big)

Four Year Bump of Win!

Without thinking, you blurt out, "Hahaha! You're bald!"

The wizard furrows his brow, but keeps his eyes firmly closed, "I know you are but what am I?"

"What?" A blast of energy knocks you off of your feet and you hit the floor with a crash as several of the skittles in your pants break free and roll away, some of them... cheering? You scramble to your feet, and Kevin immediately starts giggling. You glance down at your reflection on the smooth, black tile floor and sure enough, you are completely bald. Out of the corner of your eye. you see your hair is whipping around the room, as if caught in a strong breeze. It flies at you, circling your shiny dome a couple of times before flying into the wizards face. seemingly being absorbed into his beard, which then grows a couple of inches.

"That'll teach you to make fun," the wizard cackled.

"Not cool, old man. You didn't even add the hair to your head. You're still bald! What was the point of that?"

The wizard shrugs.

"Fine, I'm leaving," you say, scooping up Kevin who is in the process of rolling around on the floor, still emitting a squeaky kitten giggle. You walk past the wizard to the large double doors at the far side of the room.

"Not so fast," shrieks the wizard. He raises his arms and thrusts them downwards, violently. Two [blanks] drop from the ceiling and slam into the ground, shattering the tiles as they land and blocking your path to the door.

Interesting find. I'm no developer, but based on what has been committed so far, it looks as though they are rebuilding the Spirit engine from the ground up. Simple stuff so far, uploading the Vanilla half-life SDK and renaming a few classes.

Gonna bookmark that and check from time to time. It's not been touched in nearly three weeks, but they might be doing a load of work locally before committing to the repo.

The code for Spirit is a mess, likely due to the number of different people who have worked on it. Even the "most stable" version comes with a couple of unclosed values in the FGD. Nothing catastrophic, but bad enough for some editors to complain.

You do know that Day of Defeat Source is a thing right?

Also, there are plenty of reasons why they wouldn't work on HL3. If nobody on the team is interested in that particular project and think their time would be better spent elsewhere for example.

Not to mention that HL3 now has an insane amount of hype to live up to. They would need to ensure that the game is nothing short of absolute perfection before releasing it.

Holy shit Dr.Orange, that looks lovely.

@Admer... you do know that Goldsource has a skybox for space right? It's 2D sure, but that map with the sprites look a little cluserfucky...

Not to mention the speed at which you'd need to be moving to visibly see stars move in relation to one another. Although I'm not sure what the focus of the map will be so you can ignore that particular point. :P

Just make sure that they're set to additive as that will make them light up.
