No no no, don't use plain Wine! Get Cedega, which natively supports Steam and HL2. It's like ?1 a month, or $2 for you americans.

For your mouse, grab a program called logitech_applet. It let's you change the dpi to 800, which you can't do without this app. You also need libusb to use logitech_applet. And as for your graphics card, go on nvidia's site and grab the official drivers.

Wow, the MS Blaster is still out there? I've been running an unpatched Windows 200o SP3 installation on my other HDD for months, without an antivirus or even a firewall. I haven't hit any problems yet! Although, that may be because I never use it.

DDR prices depend on the chips. I am using some old-skool Winbond BH-5 stuff, it's pretty expensive for old stuff, but very desirable. The newer stuff (Winbond UTT-BH) is ok, but dies really quickly. Old BH-5 is so goddamn strong, I've ran mine at 4.2v for 6 hours, and it hasn't been detrimental to the RAM's overclocking. Great stuff, but very very expensive, ?110 for 1GB. :o

Zl, Enemy Territory was actually an official Id Software add-on to RTCW, but John Carmack wasn't happy with their progress so they gave it to Splash Damage to develop, and they removed the single-player and turned it into an online-only game. Although, if you buy the GOTY edition of RTCW, they included Enemy Territory (not sure if it had single-player or not since I have the original limited-edition RTCW tin :)).

Starting stupid little mods when theres not chance of them being actually finished is just stupid. Even if you did make the mod, it would be so fucking far from "THE BEST MOD EVER!!". I was like that when developing Black-Death. We got a few maps down then we all lost the motivation and it slowly died.

M_gargantua, unless I am using Linux, I use Windows 2000. I've used XP in the past, it may be more cuddly and userfriendly, but 2000 is the superior operating system to XP since it's built for production use, not home use.

txtShout isn't a cbox service, it's just a text-database version of cBox, which can be hosted on your own server! Don't get them confused. txtShout is better if you want no ads, and have a PHP server. BlueBox is just the old txtBox + cBox site.

DON'T GET DUAL CORE YET!! Whatever you do! They run incredibly hot and offer no real-world performance boost, unless you run workstation apps that are SMP aware. I would recommend a nice AMD A64 Venice rig instead :) Or, get an old Asus P4C800-E, a Pentium M socket adaptor and a Pentium M 730. I'm going that route soon, Pentium M's beat FX55's in many benchmarks, since they have the shortest pipeline ever to appear on a modern CPU. I think it's ~10 stages or something ridiculously small.
