Well, according to some convincing experimentation I saw not a long time ago, thicker internal walls are better as they block VIS more thoroughly.

I think what esmajor meant is that maps compile quicker through batch compilers than in Hammer. This is obviously true (as long as you don't leave Hammer open unnecessarily) as it will free up a fair amount of system resources.

If you're on pay-as-you-go, just sit on the internet for ridiculous amounts of time saying you're doing homework. Be apologetic. If they're in a good mood, mention how (a friend who they like) says broadband's cheaper.

Repeat.

PS: Going on the internet when they're expecting phone calls (again for homework - make sure you can 'prove' this) is another good tactic.

It doesn't make any difference whether the sounds are packed or not, just use directory/filename, in the format I said. You may need the .wav extension on the end of the filename, do that if the sounds don't play.

IrfanView is free. Paint is utterly useless since the compression settings can't be adjusted, and also since quite a lot of the versions can't even save as JPEGs.

in Protest against patenting Post #26338
Unlike copyright, patents can block independent creations. Software patents can render software copyright useless. One copyrighted work can be covered by hundreds of patents of which the author doesn't even know but for whose infringement he and his users can be sued. Some of these patents may be impossible to work around, because they are broad or because they are part of communication standards.

In most countries, software has, like mathematics and other abstract subject matter, been explicitely considered to be outside the scope of patentable inventions. However these rules were broken one or another way. The patent system has gone out of control. A closed community of patent lawyers is creating, breaking and rewriting its own rules without much supervision from the outside.

The patents are indeed that ridiculous. People'll be patenting things like PRINT commands.

Read the site, ieatmonkeychow. This is not the sort of patent the protest regards.

That isn't a proper way to make icons. Windows' icon cache is probably causing this. Solution? Either e-mail me the image you want as an icon and I'll send you it back as a properly-formatted icon, or get a program like Icon Forge or Microangelo.

Alternatively you can press Print Screen, top-right of the keyboard, and then paste it into something like IrfanView. That program might be useful for converting the BMP (very large filesize) to a JPG for showing your screenies on the 'net.

The map won't compile until you fix that texture error, therefore Windoze won't be able to copy the completed BSP.

If that's the whole log then you haven't set it up properly. There will be no BSP to copy if it is not produced by HLBSP.EXE, and HLBSP won't produce a BSP if there is a serious error like that texture error.
