I'm rather delinquent on my movie reviewing.

Seen recently:

Up
Sad as fuck, very awesome in the story telling. No wonder it won so many awards. I recommend it to all.

Stranger than Fiction
Will Ferral in a serious role, he plays it well. Another good movie with a good message behind it.

Fame (1980)
This movie definitely shows how shitty going through art school really is. Kudos for nailing that aspect, but funny how it hasn't changed in almost 30 years.

Fame (2009)
Not as good as the first, I just couldn't care about the character's problems.

Hairspray
Fun if you like musicals.

Family Guy: Something Something Something Darkside
Witty and humorous as it gets for Family Guy. They poked a lot of fun at Star Wars, I think there were a few jokes I didn't understand. Either way I loved it.

Young Frankenstein
Having finished this one quite yet, disc is skipping. Although you can't go wrong with classic Mel Brooks films, especially starring Gene Wilder.

Donnie Darko
Great and fucked up cultural classic. I can see why so many people like it. I recommend it.

S Darko
A sequel of Donnie Darko that follows his youngest sister. Not as fucked up or as dark as the first, but more confusing because they tried almost too hard to honor the first one.

The Sixth Sense
I knew how this movie ended because of the mass amount of spoilers out there. However, it was a rather sweet story and it wasn't as scary as it was formerly portrayed. I loved it.

Inglourious Basterds
Tarantino never dissapoints. This movie was raw and rather suspenseful. The story didn't follow who you might think it would follow, but I guess it makes sense if you think about how the ending worked. Well told story for a fictional WW2 movie. I liked it a lot and also recommend it if you haven't seen it.

The End.

I'm thinking of making a 3 point CP version of Sancefar but only if it would be good for the gameplay of the map.

Also, I found I still have the modular prefabs for 6D, in which I could use to make a map from scratch with really nice graphics in about a few hours, possibly CP as well. I'm excited for the auto-gametype thing for the server, can't you tell :D

make it a laser or beam instead of a simple sprite.
Locking the Z-axis makes that a bit redundant. The idea is to make it as lightweight as possible. I would know a bit, I've managed to make some convincing snow for 6D using a large 256x256 sprite with dozens of little dots on it. Overall there were maybe 20 sprites on the screen, but it felt like it was a lot more.

EDIT: Got an example map for the equipping thing.

Zeeba, did you just recently find a sprite compiler or something?

Yeah a rain sprite would be nice I guess. Though it needs to be locked on it's Z-axis and really big so you can use less of them in the map to cover more area and be less expensive. Something like the rain from Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I know a way to make a rain splash on the ground sprite too, just fix it to the orientation in hammer via Sprite Fixer and face it up.

...oh now look what you did! You made me idea all over the place! geez.

I could whip up a template or example map about it. There was a lot of confusion over the equipping aspect, but the payload map was the icebreaker for a ton of advanced crap concerning triggers.

If anyone has a really large map of some kind, nab the capture points template and just add them in. What's that one map that's really big that everyone loves that I hate? That'd be good for CP.

EDIT: This shit. http://twhl.co.za/vault.php?map=1915
The author I take it isn't around anymore. Oh well.
Any big map. Hell, we can always take a small map and bump the points down to 2 and make it attack/defend.

No one wants to do teamplay on the server. too few people show up and it wouldn't be fun otherwise. I've tried to have things set the server to teamplay just for one map, but it always requires an admin and its more of a pain in the ass. Would be very helpful to have an AMX plugin or something to set it by map automatically, but I'm asking for too much with that.

I'm still trying to come up with a DM non-team based battle game type that'd be fun. So far I have it where the items the player is equipped with is defined by zone. So I can have a glock only zone, crowbar only zone, nade only zone, etc.

Another idea was to make a func_tank map only, by placing several tanks in several fortified locations around the map. Reminisce of the american gladiator show with the mounted tennis ball gun positions.

Come on, guys. We need to use our heads and make an awesome server...

...and CROSSFIRE DOES NOT MAKE THE SERVER AWESOME!

Yes I have unity experience, yes you can use the free version for selling I think. I'm using it for my Scotch and Coffee Island competition entry.

My island doesn't look as crisp and clean as the example island, but mine is built from the ground up and has lots of landmarks and structures signature to Scotch and Coffee, fully playable via first person. It also features a cheap custom reflective water and music. I do like how vegetated Unity can get without losing and performance, even on my old laptop.

No screens until it is done though. Lots of work to do yet.

Yeah I stand corrected on the acting in the first 20 minutes thing, turns out they mostly shoot films in reverse. That's why the beginnings are generally better, but the endings suffers. I dreadfully think it should be the other way around for the sake of the movie's integrity as it plays on.

Everything is fine by my book. Good believable story, no loose ends leave you hanging, great visuals, sound, acting gets better after the first 20 minutes (notice that a lot in movies) and overall good message.

I rate this movie 4.8/5 stars.

Actually no, Maya doesn't suck that much now since people started making custom tools for it, which beefed up the poly manipulation and made it more game engine friendly and as useful as 3Ds Max 4.

in Map / Mod of the Month. Post #275831
I think the idea of winning something for your work is appetizing, that's why it kicked off. We had the same symptoms when the Forum/Tutorial/Vault awards were introduced. Everyone wanted one to write a tutorial or something. However, a map of the month that has the highest rating each month gets a spotlight. The MotM award could be obtained statistically. There are problems with that though, since the rating could be fluffed up with multiple account spamming.

I'm divided on the topic. You can either have it done automatically, or not and remove the MotM completely and stop complaining about it.

I opened hammer the other night and messed around with various crap to formulate some sort of crowbar arena. Like pads that launch people in the air, conveyors, moving parts and obstacles, traps, etc. I might continue to run with this idea.

I was thinking of an idea where every so often, the weapon would change and re-equip all players, wouldn't be hard. Might have good and bad game-play.

I'm really trying to stay away from teamplay maps since they are too difficult to run on the server without special attention.

Mortar fire that the player controls and can upgrade. It could be controlled on a Yaw, Pitch, and Power setup. (think golfing games) This would lob a variety of things at invading units, like fire-ring bombs, ice bombs, toxic waste barrels that poison them, nukes, etc. whatever you can think of.
