Browsers are meant to browse, not play games or do 3D stuff. It's a novelty and will never be more than that.

Yes but unity is a plugin, and the development platform isn't free, and mac-exclusive.

3D in browsers is rubbish anyway.

in Problems with new computer. Post #265835
Three step guide to hardware problem detecting:
0. Do all the easy stuff first, as suggested above. CMOS reset, BIOS flashing, memtest, remove any overclocks, etc. If you think that it is a hardware problem, try these steps:

1. Remove everything from the motherboard that you possibly can. This includes non-boot hard drives, video cards (only if you have integrated), DVD drives, and all but one stick of RAM. If you can, replace all cables with new ones. I've had several crashing problems associated with faulty SATA cables.

2. If you're still having the problem, then you're in trouble. It's probably your motherboard, but you should try different RAM and HDDs before you make assumptions. If you don't have the problem, slowly add hardware until you get the problem again.

3. Once you get the problem again, set aside that piece of "faulty" hardware and keep adding the rest of your hardware to make sure that nothing else is causing it. If you don't get the problem without the piece you set aside, add it back in to make sure that it is the thing causing the error.

It's a slow process but it's about as thorough as you can get without knowing your exact setup. The system clock issues and the early freezes make it seem like your motherboard is screwy in some way.

Ah, I think you mean prefabs. They're just brushwork that's been premade and saved as a group. They're kind of frowned upon, as you can tell if the mapper has put prefabs everywhere in a map, because you see the same thing in lots of other maps.
(Of course things like file cabinets and the like are fairly standard stuff, so you may as well use them. Just don't use them too much.)

Also, invalid prefabs will cause Hammer to crash, and there are plenty of invalid ones around. I'm pretty sure that more recent versions of Hammer don't include any prefabs.

If you really want to use the prefabs, find an older install of Hammer (such as 3.3, not sure if they're included), or a copy of Worldcraft 2.1 (definitely included), and copy the 'prefabs' folder to your Hammer install directory. Alternatively, a Google search might turn up some prefabs.

It's not a problem. There's only one category at a time, as far as I know.
Just pretend it's not there, the category changes automatically as you change the tool you are using :)

You'll notice that a compressed BSP is much smaller than the uncompressed BSP (in most cases), so it takes less bandwidth for everyone to download/upload/store if it is compressed.

I am not planning to get Mirror's Edge. From what I read, the gameplay becomes very repetitive very quickly.
It's absolutely nothing compared to Far Cry 2 in terms of repetitiveness. Mirror's Edge is a game that, while breaking no gaming boundaries, is a very unique experience. I quite enjoyed playing through it.

If they can find a way to make a nuclear plant but NEVER mention the word nuclear, not many people would complain
"Fission Reactor"
But then I guess they'd have to avoid saying "nuclear fission" >_>
If only someone were to think of a way to destroy/recycle/re-use the waste instead of storing it in extremely pricy underground waste vaults. Furthermore, poorer countries usually handle their radioactive waste far less efficiently/safely, which could be considered a threat to the environment.
Nuclear reprocessing helps with this.

m0p: it uses the Trident engine, according to wiki. So yes, it's just a GUI for IE, keeping all the problems of the layout engine :/

CapT: 67% of all internet users use IE. IE has fuckloads of problems when it comes to security, as well as webpage rendering. Any update that improves these things could be considered interesting.

To sum up: MS need to force IE7 (at the minimum) to all IE6 users. Firefox would be better >_>

Nothing at all. All public upload sites are a pain, but they serve their purpose. The important thing to know with rapidshare is that you have to create a free account, otherwise your file will be deleted after it has been downloaded 10 times. Personally I think that Rapidshare is okay even without having to pay for it, you get about 40kbps, and the wait times between downloads is only about 15 minutes after you finish downloading the previous file. Combine that with a program that does all this automatically (Rapidshare doesn't even need a CAPTCHA anymore), and you can find some really cool stuff. For popular files, though, usenet will always win.

tldr: stop complaining about rapidshare.

in My site is falling apart - halp! Post #263936
You're not going to like this, but the problem is that you're using Dreamweaver. Programs like DW do unexpected and silly things, and it can get rather difficult to fix.

My recommendation is to start learning about HTML and CSS, and then do it yourself - a layout like that would be pretty easy to do, especially with tables (but tables are not recommended).

If you don't want to redo the whole site, still learn some HTML and CSS, and get the Firebug plugin for Firefox. Then inspect the menu areas and you should be able to find out why it's messing up like that.

I suppose a third option is to work around it in DW. Try putting each menu graphic in its own table cell.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. You need to have decent media and a detailed explanation of your mod before you even have a slim chance of getting a programmer to join your mod.

Basically you've just come in here and told people nothing about your mod. For all we know, it could be a pile of crap, and not many programmers are going to jump on it and code for something like that.

Programmers for mods are significantly harder to find than mappers, so you need to attract them to your mod with media, rather than "Agree to work for us, and then we'll tell you what you're working for."
