In my opinion, the theme itself is just ugly. Not attractive. But oh well, I guess you don't have much to choose from with templates.
How about an article section with user-submittable articles about parenting, gaming, and computering in general?

Power supply unit or PSU.

Try booting into safe mode and see if the problem ensues. Might be a driver issue. And yeah, check your temperatures, either in BIOS or in a windows app, such as motherboard monitor.

Some case fans would be a good idea (you know, those that aren't attached to any component except the chassi?) to get a proper airflow.

The only reason I buy games for any reason is so that I can feel that I own a hard-copy of the game - legally. Buying files on a server seems like idiocy to me.

They don't actually steal much webspace seeing as how they're never viewed by anyone. Text files aren't big, people - if bandwidth needs to be saved we need to remove images and much-downloaded files, not text.

Can the site's slowyness even be caused by exceeded bandwidth usage? I don't think so, but I don't really know much. Anyhow, if it is, deleting threads and maps will hardly help - disabling avatars and such would help though.

Hm, this is a new low for Valve. I can accept real, full games and mods related to Valve developed games but these shareware arcade games are just... crap. For shame.

You're all hopeless nostalgics. Level design has, if anything, improved since the doom days (where get-the-blue-key-for-the-blue-door was as advanced as it got) - you just remember those games better because you liked them. I agree about the length and intuition of games though - FPSes are practically carbon copies of eachother (Prey, Q4, D3 and all of those piles of crap people tend to call games), not only copying style and gameplay but plots and content aswell. It buggers the hell out of me.
Valve did an amazing job with HL2, looking back. It kept me interested and satisfied for 2 play-throughs, and I've played through it twice since the first 2.

Anyway, M_, comparing your "1000s of hours of gameplay" from half-life and games like BF2 is just nonsense. If you'd LIKED BF2 you'd play it more, and get mods for it, and get involved in fan-sites. The actual content of the game plays small parts in your arguement, whereas personal taste doesn't.

If only more developers would allow themselves to be more creative, and spend time making truely entertaining gameplay instead of making new monsters and weapons and whatnot.

Hm, this was a quite random and badly written rant, but meh, can't be arsed to rephrase.

You're forgetting the new vehicles. I'm not certain, of course, but I think they'll add lots of different gameplay. Same goes for the new weapons. In any case, blame it on EA. Everything bad in the gaming world is caused by them. Always.

As for HL2's Episodes, I can completely understand valve's pricing. Yes, it's pretty expensive in relativity to the amount of new content, but people're paying for it, right? I thought marketing and, um, selling stuff was about making money. I guess I must be wrong.

First of all, change the colour theme for the content background. That pukey yellow doesn't really fit. Second, change all the red stuff. That red just isn't nice on the eyes. Third, the menu needs revision - I'd say make the buttons bigger and, if you can, give them rounded corners. Fourth, get rid of all thick borders. In stead of thick borders to seperate certain paragraphs from the content, give them a 1px weak-coloured border and a different background-color. Fifth, try to round it all up - rounded corners ftw, both in mapping and web-designing. Just some initial tips, not really sure if it'd look good.

Indeed, the colour theme is rather.. ugly. I hope you can control it via CSS. Also, make the header fit in with its background element.

Tssk, Ant, you're not thinking like a corporation. The goal of a site is (usually) to reach out to as many people as possible - that's why webdesigners adapt their sites to the most common browsers, most common resolutions, fonts, etc. 800 pixels is actually very wide - you don't need more than, say, 600px for a nice-looking site. In perspective, the whole TWHL design is 750px, the whole Garry's mod 9 site is 600 pixels wide.
To cater for people using 800x600 isn't a bad idea, and it's not a lot of effort.

Satchmo: Sure, no problem. I'll upload the .psd if anyone else wants to edit it.

A couple of new ones. I'm more happy about these, actually, allthough I'd consider resizing the logo area to around 75-125 pixels high.

Uh, proof, Headcrab Killa?
I seriously doubt valve would intentionally cripple performances on a specific series of cards, as that does nothing but hurt their reputation, disappoint their fans and probably causes some legal problems. It just seems quite unlikely - ATi doesn't even gain anything on it, it's not like people with FX cards will go "Oh my, I better get an ATi card 'cause HL2 will run better".

I call shenenigans!
