Are you sure it doesn't seem fullbright...Your texture choice can make maps appear fullbright...Give us a pic then.

Maybe because you didn't save before each compile...I deleted all displacements and ctrl + s + compile.

Then I repeat with all brushes...

Ok I found your problem...

After deleting bits and bobs it turns out those rounded pillars under the wooden platform are causing the problem.

I deleted them and presto...Also your two wooden platforms were turned into displacements...Although that caused no problem but I suggest remaking it.

So to conclude: Delete those rounded pillars and to prove my answer:

I'll post some screenshots then when I have a decent compile...Unless you'd rather see a hammer picture of prefab buildings ready for use in the environment that is yet to be made.

Thanks to Hunter I managed to get the shape of the tram right...He made his from memory so I congratulate him...Thanks to him I was able to make a similar...Maybe not so good shape.

Easily with subdivide...You may not see it but sometimes by lowering a displacement too far it causes problems...Maybe a screenshot or the vmf itself would help...I can't help people most of the time unless I can inspect it myself.

Leaf 267 (portal 1173) with too many portals. Use vbsp -glview to compile, then glview -portal -portalhighlight X or -leafhighlight L to view the problem.
Huge problem there...You've either done some messy mapping or your displacement is doing something it shouldn't do...The way I see it is you should delete bits and compile until the errors go or make a new map and test to see if vvis starts with a box and the player_start etc.

Yeah...In EP1 they go left and right...In fact they have a tunnel where they constantly fly towards you and so you have to jump over them and shoot them with the gravity gun.

I'm guessing in properties you just change the angle...Or decompile a Valve map and see...

Dude...How long is your compile log!?

It's like you ran RAD 10 times...From what I read your compile log is fine...Do you have fullbright turned off in HL2 console?

Do you use Hammer to automatically start HL2?

This is all I can think of that's causing your problem...

The weapon arsenal is brilliant and erm that's all I can say!

I understand how you did the gravity jump but the annoying thing is gibs also slowly float down unless that's what you wish.

Trapt: Very nice, you got some sweet lighting.
Penguin: You got the structure right but the texturing and lighting needs work. Also thanks for those pictures!

As for me...I'm a little annoyed at my 3D skybox so I started building the map in steps...

1. 3D Skybox.
2. All the buildings so I can use them later as a sort of prefab collection.
3. Build environment
4. Compare together with 1, 2 and 3 and bingo.

Lucky I purchased HL1: Deathmatch Source because they have some good ideas that make their maps better...I was thinking of re-making it like everyone else and show it as a scene by placing a camera where that original picture was taken.

Only grudge I have is how to make it unique...All I can think of it adding detail but that depends on the skill of the mapper...If I can do this then I for one hope I can beat our good friend Rabid ;)

1. Fog controller entity as stated above.
2. Snarkpit has great examples in the 'download' section.
3. Erm...I can't remember the name but guess what I'm going to do to find out? Google...One sec...Ok env_gloabal - In properties change the second option so it says Gravity Gun is blue or whatever it says...Then click turn on as well so it starts as soon as the map loads.
