hey, guess what?
the browser you're using now gives the entire internet access to your computer. windows update? yep. antivirus definition update? yep. microsoft word? you better believe it connects to the internet. steam is goddamn secure.

and norton is NOT 'good' antivirus software.

and i should point out that there are hundreds of thousands of steam users out there, and there hasnt been a single report of it infecting a computer. in over three years of use. why? because steam is an ONLINE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM, not a damn keylogger.

i will say it again, just to reinforce the idea to you dumbasses: viruses don't affect hardware.

furthermore, viruses can't touch your BIOS. why? because there is absolutely no bridge between windows and the BIOS. none. only the BIOS has access to the BIOS.

and there is absolutely no way steam will encourage virii to your system. i could leave my system on 24/7 with no security whatsoever with steam running and never get a virus. so either you downloaded some sort of shifty pirated software, on you're trying to dabble in steam piracy. either way, you must have no antivirus at all :|

i've never had a virus delete or corrupt my files. never.

if i buy this 7600GS with 512mb of memory it will probably take about 350W so i the PSU wont take it. im looking for a 600 - 650 psu.
stop being an idiot. a 500W PSU is sufficient for a 7600GS. stop assuming things about stuff you know nothing about. it makes you look even more stupid.

dave787564534634 is a fucking moron.
steam is NOT DRM, you fucking faggot. nor does it take up any resources at all. i've personally installed and ran steam, and played HL1, on a shit-ass computer with 128mb of RAM. so shut your fucking hole. secondly, steam does NOT poke around your HDD for illegal files, or for anything else. just look at the executable from a file access analyser.
and de-optimisation? get a fucking brain. no company wants their games to run worse.
steam is the best thing to happen to the gaming community in general. the profits go straight to the developer, meaning cheaper games. VAC is superior to punkbuster, and steam ensures that every client has the same version. server browser, auto updates, localized versions, etc etc.
steam will never be "shut down", so just do us all a favour and get the fuck out of the community.

too fuzzy :|

anyway, those white slots are PCI (NOT PCI-express) slots. they are used for expansions to your PC like, extra USB ports or ethernet. they arent used much nowadays, because tons of this kinda stuff is built in, but you'll see them around sometimes.

first, you need a new PSU
235W isnt enough
look for around 450W minimum
then, get an AGP card. a 7600GS, as i said before, will be ALOT better than the one you're running now at a good price. if you want to spend more then look around.

1.18......thats a very strange number. anyway, you need to supply more information. what card do you have now?

sigh

start > right click my computer > properties > hardware > device manager > click the + next to display adapters > tell us what it says.

i'm getting a feeling that the card is AGP, since its rather old. take note of this, and when buying a new one remember that it needs to be AGP. this rules out the latest dx10 cards. i recommend an nvidia 7600 GS. it is AGP and relatively new, and supports dx9. it is also affordable. remember that if you don't have a PCI-e motherboard (i.e. new-ish) you need to buy an AGP card.

and we all know what oblivion is ;)

PS: thankyou for taking the time to fix your spelling. it's alot better.

in Twister Development Updates Post #227382
I've released the newest version, its really a service release, because I don't have the big new feature quite ready yet. It's quite close though.

I've changed ISP's, so the update in 0.3a wont work - you'll have to download manually. So if you have Twister, follow the link to update! I'll make sure that the update works from now on :P

http://www.users.on.net/~imperialcarp/Twister/Twister.html

Not much has changed on the surface, but please comment on the new 'smooth twist' function and the new format of the text in the Twist tab. thanks.

in this case steam is more reliable than retail, because people sneak into stores and copy down the key and register them on steam, or buy it and get a refund from idiot clerks who dont know what steam is.

Let me reiterate: Discussion about illegal warez, etc. are not permitted in the forums.

why the fuck would eli take his young daughter to a high security goverment test facility? he escaped black mesa somehow, and he lost his leg escaping. he didn't escape "with" alyx.

lay it down straight:

valve do not consider blue shift or opposing force parts of the official half-life timeline. so they can choose to ignore them.

if you want to get picky, the "real" barney is the one in blue shift, the one seen struggling to open the door during the tram ride in HL1. but, this is only because of blue shift, so if valve choose to ignore it, it can be any barney that gordon chooses to interface with.

valve announced that the character in portal is NOT shepherd, and is not a character seen before. they said a while ago that portal will effect the HL story, but later they announced that while it is based in the HL universe, it will not effect the HL storyline in any way.

shepherd is a character invented by gearbox, so it is doubtful, since valve is ignoring it, that he will make a return in any official valve game.
